ESCHSCHOLZIA CALIFORNICA
Spring is here and so is Cal Poppy!! I took a recent visit to a beautiful preserve with my mother in S CA and was surrounded by gorgeous orange blooms. I love Cal Poppy for so many reasons. It is easy to find on the West Coast and easy to propagate throughout the South and Western half of the U.S. It is an annual, and easily seeded for early Spring blooms. I use the aboveground parts in tea and/or tinctures and/or glycerites as a gentle sedative. It is so gentle, it can be used for most people, including children!
Cal Poppy is a good ally for general grumpiness, sleeplessness, and pain.
More in my materia medica subscription library and Herbcraft Book!

WEEDY MEDICINE!
It's time!!! All of my favorite little weeds are coming up. Nutritive weeds are so much fun to use in recipes to bring added minerals to the diet. My recipes of resistance subscription has an entire section on weedy medicine. Whether its juice, pesto, soup , salad, or frittatas, there are so many ways to cook with them.

I am so ready for Spring!!!
Every visit to the garden or hiking trail I scour the ground to look for signs of Spring, and even though we are a month away from the Spring Equinox, I am so happy to report that there are little signs of newness everywhere!
Chickweed, Cleavers and Nettles sprouts are out in more mild climates!!! The days are growing longer and I have started lots of little babies in the greenhouse.
Stay cozy and patient but be ready!!! Spring is on its way.

WHAT TURNS YOU ON?
Tis the season to see talk of love, arousal, and...... herbal aphrodisiacs!!! Truth is, what turns people on can be very different. And...feelings of love are very different from feelings of arousal. Really, the ancient god we should probably be thinking of when we think of aphrodisiacs(which get their name from the goddess of love, Aphrodite), is really Pan. Pan is the mischievious forest god who loved to rut around, seducing folks with his pipes made of elderberry...... So lets call these "Pandisiacs" to be more authentic with what we are trying to accomplish with these herbal allies. When I create herbal "pandisiac" blends, I must look at who I am serving. If it's for yourself, then figure out what turns you on. Traditionally, herbal aphrodisiacs/"pandisiacs were put into one of several categorical actions including hormonal influencing, sedating, stimulating, and some rely on their aromatics to create these actions. These botanicals were brought into foods and perfumes to influence arousal. Read more that the link in our bio to figure out what allies to bring into your life. Also note: herbs like Damiana, Kava, and Maca need to be carefully sourced.
