🧬 Blueprint Breakdown: MTHFR
Let's talk about a gene that often gets a lot of buzz — MTHFR (yep, that’s a real gene name!).

This gene plays a major role in how your body processes folate (Vitamin B9) — a key B vitamin that supports cell health, brain function, detoxification, and even hormone balance. Folate is also a player in methylation, a vital chemical process that keeps things running smoothly behind the scenes:
🧠 Neurotransmitter production
💆 Hormone regulation
🧬 DNA repair
🛡️ Detox support

But here’s the twist: not everyone’s MTHFR gene works the same.
👉 If you have the CT or TT version of this gene (instead of the CC "wild type"), your body may have a 30–70% reduction in its ability to convert folate into its active form.

💡 What helps?
✨ Methylated folate (like L-5-MTHF) supplements — they skip the conversion step and go straight to work.
🥗 A diet rich in B vitamins, choline, and folate from real foods like dark leafy greens, eggs, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
🚫 Avoid relying on synthetic folic acid alone — it may not be doing much good if your blueprint includes MTHFR variants.

One of the most eye-opening insights from my 3X4 Genetics Blueprint? I have a high-impact Memory & Brain Health pathway and carry one copy of the APOE e4 variant — a genetic marker that’s been linked to brain aging and cognitive decline.

But here’s the key:
👉 This doesn’t mean I’m destined for poor brain health.
It does mean that my lifestyle and nutrition choices matter more — and the time to act is now, not years down the road.

🥶 Cold Plunge Initiation: Complete!

Tried not to whine... failed.
But 10/10 would plunge again. 🙌

After the initial shock (that first minute really hits you!), I was able to use slow controlled breathing to make it my 3 minutes and after I actually felt energized, clear-headed, and ready to do it again the very next day. 📸 Proof in the pic: I did it!

If you know me personally, you know I’m a fair-weather person—winter is not my jam. Even after years of living in Iowa, I’m still acclimating… slowly. 😅 So this was a big step for me.

My husband Kory Romaine Schweer has been eyeing a cold plunge setup for a while, and with his birthday in May and Father's Day in June—surprise! 🎁 We both want to take our preventive health seriously, not just for ourselves, but for our kids. We want to stay active, healthy, and around for the long haul.

Cold plunging may be trendy, but this is one "fad" I’m getting on board with for now. The research behind cold exposure is compelling—from boosting mood and energy to reducing inflammation and supporting metabolism. Activating those cold receptors may trigger powerful responses: increased focus, immune support, tissue repair, and even brown fat activation for thermogenesis.

I referenced Dr. Andrew Huberman when looking for an ideal temperature to start at (podcast links in comments!) and found deliberate cold exposure roughly between 50–59°F is cold enough for benefits—yet safe for newbies like me. Highly recommend his episodes if you're curious or love a good science-meets-practicality podcast.

"Falling off track doesn’t mean you failed — it means you’re human. What matters is getting back up."

Between school drop-offs, snack negotiations, and never-ending laundry, consistency is… a challenge. But here’s to getting back on the wagon — even if it hurts so good 😅

I’m leaning on my 3X4 results and the GeneFit app as my cheat sheet for getting back into movement, one smart step at a time. It told me tomorrow needs to be a lower-intensity day (my sore legs say thank you). Love having that personalized advice to keep me moving! 🫶🧬
