🌟 Everyone, meet Nick Anderson, LMHC!🌟

Nick earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand View University in 2022 and also holds a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (2020). He has had the privilege of walking alongside teens, college students, and adults as they navigate a variety of challenges. Nick is based in our Cedar Falls office, where he provides a warm, welcoming space for clients to process and grow. Nick uses an integrative therapeutic style, tailoring his approach to each individual’s unique needs. His mission is to walk patiently and compassionately with clients as they gain insight, heal, and grow into more connected, authentic versions of themselves.

Nick’s favorite Bible verse is 2 Timothy 1:7, which says, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment." He also finds inspiration in a quote by Carl Jung: "Where your fear is, there is your task." These words reflect both his faith and therapeutic approach—facing challenges with courage, compassion, and purpose.

Outside the counseling office, Nick enjoys experiencing God’s grace through his roles as a husband and father to two wonderful little girls. He also loves good food, playing cards and games, golfing, and staying active in general.

Nick considers it a true honor and privilege to do this work—and he would love the opportunity to support you on your journey.

🌟 Meet Susan Harberts! 🌟

Susan is the heart of our team and serves as our Clinic Lead at Candeo Counseling Center. She truly does it all! Before joining us full-time, Susan was a stay-at-home mom, and prior to that, she lived in West Des Moines where she managed Scratch Cupcakery.

Since stepping into her role as Clinic Lead in May 2024, Susan has approached it with passion and a strong eagerness to learn. She loves connecting with clients, getting to know them while they wait, and following up with them to see how they're doing.

Susan describes the atmosphere of our clinic as a balance of seriousness and fun. "Each clinician brings their unique perspective, but we are all united by the same foundation—Jesus," she says, highlighting the deep sense of community and connection within our diverse team.

Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 27:1: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
This verse resonates with Susan, reminding us that life may be tough, but we’re never meant to face it alone. By trusting in God, we open ourselves to new possibilities and strength.

For self-care, Susan enjoys building with LEGOs, baking, practicing Pilates, and making sure to get plenty of rest.

We’re so grateful to have Susan as part of our team!

🌟 Meet Josh Brood, tLMHC 🌟

We are thrilled to introduce Josh, a compassionate and dedicated counselor here at Candeo Counseling Center. Josh’s gentle and knowledgeable approach has helped many individuals find healing and growth.

Starting as an intern at Candeo Counseling Center, Josh is now in his final year of clinical supervision, on his way to becoming a fully licensed mental health counselor. With a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, Josh works with adolescents, adults, and couples in our Cedar Falls office. He helps people face the unspoken stories that shape their lives, guiding them through the difficult process of healing old wounds, buried pain, and unresolved fears that may be holding them back. Josh is passionate about empowering individuals to break free from generational patterns and old narratives, helping them live with greater authenticity and emotional freedom. He has a passion for guiding men and boys to embrace vulnerability, self-awareness, and emotional growth.

One of Josh’s favorite quotes is by Richard Rohr: “If we do not transform our pain, we will always transmit it. Someone else always suffers because we don’t know how to suffer our own wounds.”

When he’s not working, Josh enjoys staying active through movement—whether it’s playing with his children, exercising, or rucking. He’s also a lifelong learner, always diving into books and podcasts. Time spent with family and moments of solitude in nature are also essential to his self-care.

We’re proud to have Josh as part of the Candeo team, helping others move toward healing and personal growth.
