Hospice volunteering looks different for everyone.

Our volunteers may offer companionship, read or visit with patients, provide caregiver support, help with errands, or assist behind the scenes. No medical experience required — just a caring heart and a willingness to help.

When families think of hospice care, they often think of nurses and care teams — but our volunteers are just as essential.

Hospice volunteers offer companionship, comfort, and support to patients and families during life’s most meaningful moments. Sometimes that means a conversation, a hand to hold, or simply being there.

Community Representative, Mariah, discussed the benefits of hospice care and what our team can provide in this recent podcast. Take a listen!

Most people have heard of hospice.
Fewer people understand what it actually looks like once it begins.

I sat down with Mariah Schmitz from Care Initiatives Hospice - Cedar Falls/Waterloo to talk about what hospice really brings into a home from the team behind it to the day-to-day support families receive.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens after hospice is involved, this conversation will give you a clearer picture.

We had a great time at Starmont High School's career fair! We appreciate any opportunity to spread awareness about hospice care and the diverse careers within our organization. From those team members that are hands on, to those running things behind the scenes; it's such an honor to be able to support our patients and families in all of our roles.

As we wrap up National Social Work Month, we want to take one more opportunity to say thank you.

To our Hospice Social Workers: thank you for the comfort you provide, the questions you answer, the guidance you offer, and the advocacy you demonstrate every single day.

You help families navigate complex decisions. You support patients during important life transitions. You connect people to the resources they need. And you do it all with compassion and heart.

While March may be coming to an end, the impact of our Social Workers continues all year long.

We are so grateful for everything you do for the patients and families we serve.
