We appreciate all of our generous donors who fund scholarships, programming, research, conferences, and so many other things to help our students succeed! Over the next year, we would love for more alumni to get involved by referring students to UNI, supervising interns, speaking in classes, attending homecoming, registering for ICCD (April 9-10, 2026), and/or giving to the UNI foundation.

If you are making a donation and want to benefit our program, select "Other Designation" and enter either the Communication Sciences & Disorders Fund for Excellence (223933) or the American Sign Language Program Fund (223024).

Speech-Language Pathologists in Applington-Parkersburg, Cedar Falls, D**e, Hudson, Waterloo, and Waverly area:

Hello!
We are looking for practicing SLPs (or their Graduate student clinicians) to participate in a lending library research project for those working with pediatric populations who stutter. As part of the research, participants will complete an initial survey to see which books SLPs (or their grad students) would like to use (about 10
minutes), then we drop off the books for a few weeks. Lastly, we ask if they would complete a second survey to offer feedback about using the books (approximately 15-30 minutes).

Books to be borrowed can be used for PreK and school-aged children.

Criteria:
● Must be a practicing SLP or Graduate student clinician
● Must work with a child who stutters

Those participants who complete the second survey will be entered into a drawing.

Thanks for considering our research project “STARS: SLPs Talking About Reframing
Stuttering”
Sincerely,
Kendall Fecher, B.A., Mattison Hill, B.A., Bridgette McKinney, B.A.

Parents/Guardians of preschool or school-aged children in Iowa

We are recruiting parents/guardians of preschool and elementary-aged children to participate in a 15 minute survey “Relationship of Parent and Child Technology Use on Literacy.” You will be asked questions about your technology use, your child’s technology use, play, reading, and school outcomes for preschoolers through elementary school students. If you have access to your child’s most recent FAST assessment scores and/or report card, there are two related questions. You can skip those questions if you don’t have their scores. We will NOT ask any questions specific to your name, your child’s name, your city or your child’s school. All individual information will be kept confidential and only summarized finding will be presented or published. Risks are minimal and there is no compensation to participate. You can refuse to participate, withdraw your participation, or skip questions. If you are going to participate, we request that you ask your child if they are ok with you sharing information about their reading and technology. When you click on the link below, the first page will provide all the details of the survey. If you consent, you’ll “click to proceed” to take the survey.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Dr. Jennifer Garrett, Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders, University of Northern Iowa at jennifer.garrett@uni.edu or 319-273-3703.
