She’s bleeding, wrecked, torn open.

A body flipped inside out.

Breasts warming, filling, stretching beyond their boundaries.

There’s ice and heat, cramps and swelling, a long-awaited glass of red wine.

She’s desperate for rest, for precious sleep, cobbling together broken hours, minutes, answering the cry.

9 months sustaining another, (hopefully) months more of continued sustenance.

We look at her, sleeping there,
and we know this, don’t we?

Her body, rearranged, recalibrated - not bad, just different.

Her days, no longer following a familiar path.

Her heart, vulnerable and exposed in a brand new way.

Her entire life, spinning on a new axis, pointed in new directions.

This is the 24-hour-old mama.

And she was made for this.

I'll never forget the faces of the nurses who followed me into the bathroom after delivering each baby. That moment when I was so vulnerable, so tired, scared, shaky. My swollen belly deflating, and my modesty long gone. They treated me with such kindness and dignity. For me, these have been moments of empowerment and confirmation that I have a real village to help me, even if just for that little bit of time in a bathroom, on a toilet, while a kind nurse shows me how to put an ice pad on my mesh un**es. This photo by my friend MommaKT Shoots just takes me right back. Like, I can smell the Dermaplast. Let's hear it for the nurses and the doulas and anyone else who shows us how to make ice pad underwear (or helps with that first shower post c-section!)

I know some of you have been looking for a prenatal yoga class that works well for your schedule -- here is another option! Because of all the crazy going on right now, Lacy (former Bradley mama -- and now Bradley teacher!!) is offering online classes! We're ready to go for Virtual Live-Streaming Prenatal Yoga!!! Join Lacy Knipper this coming Wednesday evening, 5:30-6:20 pm.

Release tension and move your body in ways that can ease common discomforts of pregnancy. Appreciate, trust, and tune in to your changing body, deepening your connection with your body and your baby. Practice openness, breath, and surrender - preparing mind, body, and spirit for birth and motherhood.

This class will be offered as live streaming content with Lacy Knipper, certified yoga instructor and birth educator. Register in advance by calling 563-207-8932 or by using Mindbody. You will then receive an email with login information from your instructor before class begins.
