Today's
Roy Eblen was hired as an instructor in 1960. In his early career, he served as a faculty member in the speech department and the director of the speech clinic. In 1971, Dr. Eblen was appointed interim department head of the newly formed Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology with final approval as department head by the board of Regents for the 1972-1973 academic year. From 1975-1978, Dr. Eblen was instrumental in the clinic and department move from the basement of Lang to the new Communication Arts Center. He stepped down as department head in 1978 but continued as a faculty member in our department until his retirement in 1985. On October 3, 1997, a ceremony was held to name the clinic, the Roy Eblen Speech and Hearing Clinic. Dr. Eblen passed away on Feb 5, 1998. Through the generous donations of family, friends, and colleagues, the department is able to fund scholarships and innovative programming in Dr. Eblen's memory.

Excited to see one of our CSD students featured...we welcome students from all states!

You might recognize some of these faces from around campus. These are just a handful of our students from Iowa’s neighboring states. They may have traveled a little farther than most to get here, but the takeaways from their UNI experiences are very similar to that of any Panther.

They find community here.
They learn valuable career and life skills.
And they have fun while doing it!
