We sent our well wishes and a bittersweet goodbye to team member Rebeca last month. Rebeca joined our team five years ago. We will miss her but wish her many wonderful golden years enjoying her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren!

📣 This month we were thrilled to attend the annual “Surviving & Thriving” Luncheon from Pink Alliance Brazos Valley. Pink Alliance is a local nonprofit that advocates for breast health and cancer support by providing financial assistance to breast cancer thrivers to assist with the oftentimes exorbitant expenses of medical treatment. They host the luncheon every year to support this cause. With a true local focus, all funds raised by Pink Alliance stay in the Brazos Valley. 💜

We truly enjoy attending their luncheon each year!

“All of my travels are because of my journey and everything I’ve been through. I look at every day as a gift,” she said.

Twenty-one years since her first and second breast cancer diagnoses, P&H patient Venisa reflects on her story. Venisa discovered a lump in her right breast when doing a self-breast exam in the shower when she was 32 years old. Despite describing the knot as painful to doctors, she was told "cancer doesn't hurt" and her concerns were dismissed. But tests and biopsies showed something different: Venisa had stage 3 breast cancer. After finishing treatment, she was almost immediately diagnosed with breast cancer on the left side. She went straight into chemotherapy, radiation, and a double mastectomy.

“I didn’t know if I was going to live long enough to see the next year,” Venisa said. “I prayed that I would live long enough to see one of my girls have a baby. A few months later, on my birthday on Christmas Eve, my daughter told me she was pregnant. It’s so emotional because I’m so thankful to be here,” Venisa shared.

Six grandkids and several international trips and skydiving adventures later, Venisa lives out her goal to soak up every day as much as she can.

Patient Update 🙌 Last year we shared Tracie’s breast cancer story and the life-changing difference her Trulife custom prostheses made for her. With no family history and no symptoms of breast cancer when she was diagnosed at 49, the diagnosis shocked and overwhelmed her.

“I literally sobbed in Hilda's office when I picked the prostheses up and put them on for the first time. With all of the uncertainty, you feel so helpless, and when I found something so concrete like these prostheses, I got a much better result than I thought I was going to. The end result is way more than I could have ever imagined.”

Now, six years after her initial diagnosis, Tracie says she is enjoying traveling, working, and spending time with her new granddaughter.

The consensus? “Life is good,” she said.

October means something different for everyone. You may want to acknowledge your breast cancer journey, you may rather not talk about it, or you may prefer to grieve on your own.

We want you to know you are seen and heard, and your fight is appreciated. There is a “you” beyond breast cancer, and we are here for it.
