Plugged-In Iowa To promote awareness and heighten visibility of peer-based recovery through education, outreach and support.

Plugged-In Iowa’s purpose is threefold: to educate key stakeholders, as well as the public at large, as to the value of peer support; to provide outreach to agencies that are currently utilizing peer support, as well as exploring areas where peer support is currently not employed but has the potential to play a vital role in the recovery process; and to support an individual’s recovery through various peer-based services. Education includes working with the MHDS regions and other stakeholders in identifying what peer support is, why it works and what its value is. This will be accomplished in several ways including, but not limited to, presentations, pluggediniowa.org and social media. Outreach

Outreach includes establishing relationships with agencies that are currently utilizing, or will be utilizing, peer support specialists in better understand the role of peer support, the role of training and supervising the peer support specialist and the successful deployment of peer-based services. Support

Support includes providing an atmosphere in which an individual’s recovery is supported through the use of one-to-one intentional peer support, wellness centers and crisis respite care.
