Prayer and Peace
Spiritual wellness is an important part of whole-person care. In busy or uncertain seasons, taking time to pause, pray, and reflect can bring peace and clarity.
Philippians 4:6-7 says "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus". (NKJV)
This Wellness Wednesday, we encourage you to slow down and rest in the presence of God. Peace is a gift worth protecting. 🕊️

Wellness Wednesday: A Fresh Start for the New Year🎉
The beginning of a new year is a natural time to reflect, reset, and set goals for our health and well-being. Wellness resolutions don’t have to be overwhelming to be meaningful. In fact, the goals we stick with are often the simplest and most intentional.
Here are a few practical tips to help you set goals and follow through:
• Start small. Choose one or two realistic goals rather than trying to change everything at once.
• Be specific. Clear goals are easier to keep. Instead of “get healthier,” try “take a 20-minute walk three times a week.”
• Write it down. Putting your goal on paper makes it tangible and helps keep it top of mind.
• Build accountability. Share your goal with a friend or family member who can encourage you along the way.
• Extend grace to yourself. Progress matters more than perfection. If you stumble, start again and when you make progress find ways to celebrate!🎉
At His Hands, we believe caring for your health is an important step toward caring for your whole life. This Wellness Wednesday, we encourage you to set goals that support your body, mind, and heart one step at a time.

🎄 Wellness Wednesday: Your Mental Health Matters This Holiday Season 💙
The holidays can be a joyful time—but they can also bring added stress, pressure, and emotional fatigue. Between packed schedules, financial strain, and high expectations, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
This season, remember to care for your whole self—body, mind, and spirit. Make space for rest, connection, prayer, and self-reflection. Set boundaries, prioritize what matters most, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or take a break when needed.
Taking care of your mental wellness isn’t selfish—it’s essential. You matter. 💚

His Hands Free Clinic is dedicated to providing high quality healthcare at no cost to uninsured and underinsured people of Eastern Iowa. His Hands offers medical, dental, chiropractic, mental health, woman’s health, physical therapy, social work services, prescription assistance, durable medical equipment and prayer support.
The initial motivation to create a free clinic came from a challenge issued by the Christian Medical and Dental Society in 1991. Dr. Jim Bell attended that conference and upon returned to Cedar Rapids gathered his colleagues to create The Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic. The clinic opened in May 1992, in a space donated by The Jane Boyd Community Center.
In the early days, the clinic was only open for three hours every other Monday night. As the need for free care became more evident, Dr. Ken Cearlock joined the clinic, allowing it to be open every Monday night. Soon numerous nurses, social workers and pharmacists joined the effort. Year after year, the demands on the clinic have increased. In 1996, The Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic was incorporated as His Hands Ministries; they obtained non-profit status and formed a Board of Directors and an Executive Director was hired to oversee the day-to-day operations. Extra clinics were added for primary care on Thursdays and then Tuesdays, as well as specialty clinics in gynecology, podiatry and general internal medicine. A prescription assistance program was started to address the need for medications.
Patient rosters continued to swell and in 2001, the clinic saw over 5000 patients. In 2002, a search began for an alternate clinic site. In the preliminary stages of the search process, philosophical differences were pulling the Board of Directors in different directions. Several Board members and the Executive Director resigned and the clinic split into two organizations: the Community Health Free Clinic and Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic.
The Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic reopened its doors in January 2003, at 1043 3rd Ave SE. Significant changes were made at the clinic in 2003, including the institution of scheduled appointments and solidifying the prayer ministry with trained prayer support volunteers. In 2005, chiropractor services were added to help patients suffering from chronic pain. In 2006, the Board of Directors changed the organization’s name to His Hands Free Medical Clinic. In 2014, the clinic held its first fundraising event, Praise on the River. The clinic now has two annual fundraisers Praise on the River and Laughter is the Best Medicine.
Today we are at 400 12th Street SE and we offer free medical, chiropractic, dental, physical therapy, mental health, women's health, prescription assistance, durable medical equipment, spiritual care, social work and off-site optical care to patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Our administrative office is open Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Our clinics are open at varying times throughout each week when providers are available.
