His Hands Free Clinic Welcome to His Hands Free Clinic's page! To follow us all you have to do is click the 'Like' button! and Friday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

We offer free medical, chiropractic, physical therapy, mental health, women's health and dental care to patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Our administrative office is open Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Our clinics are open at varying times throughout each week. Please call to schedule an appointment.

April is Volunteer Appreciation month, and this week is volunteer appreciation week!💙

We are so endlessly grateful for all of the work that our volunteers do every day. From their service to their smiles we couldn't do what we do every day without them.

Wellness Wednesday: Reflection💙⛈🌷

As April showers create gloomy skies and yet bring new life, we are reminded that there is great value in reflection.

Rain may be inconvenient to walk through, and sure the clouds cast dark shadows, but without the rain there can be no flowers.

Perspective is important. If all we focus on is the inconvenience of the rain we rob ourselves of the joy and beauty of the flowers, not to mention the warmth of spring.

This wellness Wednesday, try taking the time to reflect on your own mindset. This is not just about the weather, but everything in life. Focusing on the bad things makes the world seem much darker and colder than it is. Are you stopping to smell the flowers, or are you letting the gloom steal your attention?

If you find yourself focusing on the things getting you down, try intentionally thinking of good things you have, good that exists in the world, or even the last time you saw something beautiful. 💐

This time of year the weather changes very fast!☀️🌦️🌨️⛈️🌤️🍃
You might need your coat one day, and be fine without it the day after.
Constant exposure to fluxuating temperatures can add a lot of stress to your body, and leave you more susceptible to illness, not to mention it is just plain uncomfortable to be too cold one day and too hot the next.

The solution to this seasonal issue is super simple:

Our Story

His Hands Free Clinic is dedicated to providing high quality healthcare at no cost to uninsured and underinsured people of Eastern Iowa. His Hands offers medical, dental, chiropractic, mental health, woman’s health, physical therapy, social work services, prescription assistance, durable medical equipment and prayer support.

The initial motivation to create a free clinic came from a challenge issued by the Christian Medical and Dental Society in 1991. Dr. Jim Bell attended that conference and upon returned to Cedar Rapids gathered his colleagues to create The Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic. The clinic opened in May 1992, in a space donated by The Jane Boyd Community Center.

In the early days, the clinic was only open for three hours every other Monday night. As the need for free care became more evident, Dr. Ken Cearlock joined the clinic, allowing it to be open every Monday night. Soon numerous nurses, social workers and pharmacists joined the effort. Year after year, the demands on the clinic have increased. In 1996, The Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic was incorporated as His Hands Ministries; they obtained non-profit status and formed a Board of Directors and an Executive Director was hired to oversee the day-to-day operations. Extra clinics were added for primary care on Thursdays and then Tuesdays, as well as specialty clinics in gynecology, podiatry and general internal medicine. A prescription assistance program was started to address the need for medications.

Patient rosters continued to swell and in 2001, the clinic saw over 5000 patients. In 2002, a search began for an alternate clinic site. In the preliminary stages of the search process, philosophical differences were pulling the Board of Directors in different directions. Several Board members and the Executive Director resigned and the clinic split into two organizations: the Community Health Free Clinic and Cedar Rapids Free Medical Clinic.
