It may be summer, but we're looking ahead to the fall!

We are looking for volunteers to prepare & serve a Thanksgiving meal at our Youth Shelter the week of Thanksgiving (Wednesday, Thursday or Friday) for approximately 17 teens who are staying with us over the holiday.

While youth stay with us, we strive to provide a home-like environment, including traditional holiday experiences. This is a great opportunity for church or community groups - you can tailor it to be a good fit for your team!

Runaway and youth in foster care are at a higher risk of becoming trafficked. Our Youth Shelter and Iowa Aftercare Services Network programs help support youth in these, and other, situations.

- One in 6 runaway youth are likely to become victims of s*x trafficking, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

- Youth in foster care are 4 times more likely to be trafficked than other youth, according to the National Foster Care Institute. 60% of child s*x trafficking victims have had prior involvement in the child welfare system, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Especially those starting a new school; moving away for college; starting a new job; looking for a career; trying to find their place in the world; facing a break up; in a new relationship; always smiling; always checking on others… check on the one friend you think doesn’t need it. We had a great time at Art in the Park, hosted by the Wellington Heights Neighborhood Association! It was a hot but fun afternoon - thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to talk about mental health services and make a "breathing bracelet!"
