Today, Teamsters join communities around the nation to honor the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth, a federal holiday marking the end of slavery. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger, along with more than 1,800 federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take control of the state and ensure freedom for the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the area.

The Teamsters Union has a proud and historic record of fighting for equitable contracts that uplift millions of workers of all backgrounds into the middle class, supporting the recognition of Juneteenth as a federal holiday, and combatting racism and discrimination.

My name is Greg Hearns, former Vice President of CWJ. I resigned after the 7:3 farce of a vote to end the employment of a probationary employee without cause. I agree that this was not a violation of the collective bargaining agreement, however we are a labor center fighting against worker abuse, not a corporation, and that is the least we should do. I was asked by the employees to attend the meeting in their support. I can honestly say that the only truthful part of this statement is that we met. Two sides to every story.

Teamster members employed by the Center for Worker Justice of Eastern Iowa are on strike. They voted unanimously Thursday to commence a strike effective immediately over unfair labor practices and poor working conditions. Management tried to resolve the strike today by threatening workers if they didn't end the strike.

This is a worker center with a labor problem caused by arrogance and poor management. Tell CWJ to stop the war on immigrant workers!
