As Halloween approaches, we wanted to post a gentle reminder about cemeteries. These spaces may seem like mysterious adventures to some, but they are actually sacred places where loved ones rest and memories are honored.

Cemeteries are NOT haunted houses or photo ops. And grave markers and decorations should NEVER be disturbed or vandalized.

We’re proud to maintain a peaceful, beautiful place for families to find comfort. We ask that all visitors treat the grounds with respect.

Each month, we share writing prompts designed to help individuals process loss, honor memories, and find healing moments through writing. This month's prompt is:

What memory of your loved one brings you peace? Write it out in detail, and notice the feelings that arise as you relive it. ✍️✨

Grief doesn’t just live in the heart but also in the body. Fatigue, tension, and even changes in appetite are all common responses.

While you can't "cure" grief, you can take care of your body as it carries you through it. Try:

- taking slow walks, even just around the block.
- breathing deeply and stretching your shoulders.
- staying hydrated and nourishing yourself with gentle meals.

And of course, listen to your body. Rest is essential for the body and mind. 💚

Our Story

Carl K. Linge, the founder of Cedar Memorial, purchased a farm along the main road between Cedar Rapids and Marion in the winter of 1929. At that time the two cities were separated by about 6 miles of countryside. Later that same year, he began building a new kind of cemetery called a park plan. Instead of large stone monuments, it would feature enduring bronze memorials set flush with the ground. Carl kept expanding his unique cemetery through the years.

A second and a third generation of Linges continued Carl's vision, and today, Cedar Memorial is one of the most respected cemeteries and funeral homes in the Midwest.

At Cedar Memorial, you'll find comfort, dignity, and quality at every turn. From our distinctive facilities and grounds to our caring, professional staff — we provide "Everything for your family."

We pride ourselves in providing innovative funeral and cemetery services to families throughout the Cedar Rapids and Marion area. Cedar Memorial also strives to give back to the community through sponsorship of special events.
