The Winter Olympics have begun! Did you know?

šŸ’” The first official U.S. Olympic team chiro was officially appointed to the medical team in 1980 at the Lake Placid Winter Games.
šŸ’” Since 1980, chiropractors have been included as part of the U.S. Olympic Committee medical staff at many Olympic Games, working alongside physicians, athletic trainers, and other specialists to help athletes stay healthy, recover, and perform at their best.
šŸ’” Chiropractors who serve with the USOC typically go through rigorous training and must meet experience requirements, often participating in Olympic camps and other elite sports events before selection.
šŸ’” Chiropractic care is now considered an important part of the team approach to athlete health, helping with prevention, maintenance, mobility, and performance as part of a broader sports medicine strategy.

We'll be watching and cheering on all the athletes from around the globe!

Starting tonight and lasting for nearly a week, our area will experience dangerously cold conditions with wind chills approaching -40°F. These temperatures pose a serious risk for frostbite and hypothermia in just minutes of exposure.
Please take this warning seriously and prioritize your safety.

* Stay Indoors if Possible: Avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary.
* Dress in Layers: If you must go out, wear insulated, moisture-wicking clothing, hats, gloves, and waterproof boots.
* Limit Exposure: Take frequent breaks indoors and avoid prolonged time outside.
* Stay Dry: Wet clothing accelerates heat loss—change out of damp clothes promptly.
* Watch for Warning Signs: Frostbite symptoms include numbness and pale skin. Hypothermia signs include shivering, confusion, and fatigue. Seek medical attention immediately if these occur.
* Drive Safely: Allow extra time for travel, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, and check road conditions before heading out.
* Winter Emergency Kit Essentials: Blanket or sleeping bag, extra warm clothing, water, non-perishable snacks, flashlight with extra batteries, first aid kit, jumper cables, ice scraper, small shovel, sand or kitty litter for traction, and a fully charged phone or power bank.
* Stay Informed: Monitor local weather alerts and follow city guidelines for closures or delays.

Your safety is absolutely vital. Please share these precautions with others and take every measure to protect yourself during this extreme cold event.

If you are in danger, call 911 immediately.

Periods of inactivity can happen for a variety of reasons: illness, injury, surgical procedure, or simply a lack of exercise. Whatever the reason, many of us end the year having logged less movement and exercise time than we would have liked. The New Year offers a fresh start, but getting active after weeks or months of inactivity can be challenging.

Head to the Healthy Living blog on handsdownbetter.org for more tips on starting to move again after a period of inactivity: https://buff.ly/X8IfINl
