A Message from Our Community Director
At Garnett Place, we often hear, "I'm not ready yet." And to that, I say— we understand. Choosing independent living isn't just about changing your address. It's about imagining a life filled with possibility, surrounded by people who value connection, joy, and choice.
In 2021, when my dad passed away suddenly, my mom was left stunned and grieving. For the first time, she faced questions she'd never needed to answer before: Who would go on adventures with her? Would she have no one to cook for anymore? Who would she sit with at church? Did she really want to manage the house, yard, and snow removal alone?
After thoughtful reflection, she chose to sell the house and move into a senior living community in Florida. Today, she's thriving— always on the go, surrounded by a tight-knit group of friends who truly understand her journey. She's still active and fiercely independent, but as she's learned: independent doesn't have to mean alone. She's found comfort, connection, and new purpose in a place that respects her strength and supports her spirit.
