After a scary fall on the ice at ImOn Ice Arena this past May, MercyCare’s Dr. Ann Soenen stepped up to help make the ice safer for everyone. As a parent at the arena, she was first on the scene when a young person hit his head on the ice and required emergency care.
Motivated by this experience, Dr. Soenen reached out to ImOn Ice Arena’s General Manager, Tonya Frost, to see how Mercy could support additional safety measures. The result? Mercy helped provide 45 new helmets for skaters, especially beginners, keeping everyone protected while having fun.
Tonya Frost shared, “The new helmets provide an additional safety measure for our skaters. We recently started using them during our Learn to Skate open house, and about a dozen skaters requested them. It’s great that Mercy is helping us make sure everyone is safe. Thank you!”
Dr. Soenen added, “I’m so pleased Mercy could step in to provide this additional safety measure for our local ice skaters. Keeping our community safe while they enjoy the ice is something I’m proud to support.”
Each helmet features a sticker that reads: “Your safeguard. On and off the ice. Mercy ER & MercyCare Urgent Care.”
Thank you, Dr. Soenen, for looking out for the safety of our community!
