April is Fair Housing Month!

Do you know how to respond when a renter wants to bring in an animal for emotional support? What if they want to bring in more than one? What about renting to felons? Or applicants who don’t speak English? Or a transgender person?

Lauren Camp, Executive Director of the Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission, will cover key fair housing topics every landlord should understand, including protected classes, emotional support animals, documentation requirements, and how to properly navigate criminal history considerations, such as applicants with felony records or registered s*x offenders, while remaining compliant with civil rights laws. This session is designed to give you practical guidance you can apply immediately to protect your business and stay within legal guidelines.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain clarity on complex regulations and ask questions directly to a local expert.

Don’t let a tragedy at your property catch you unprepared. All of us who own rental properties know to always expect
the unexpected. Any death, whether by natural causes or not, may require specialized cleanup. Even hoarding situations can present the need for specific remediation.

Join us on Thursday, November 13, 2025, for our next Landlords of Linn County meeting, featuring Iowa CTS Cleaners, a professional biohazard cleaning service.

Biohazards are often present in death, accident, or trauma scenes — and dangerous pathogens can be invisible. As property owners, we can be held liable for health issues caused by improper cleanup. Iowa CTS Cleaners will share valuable information on how to limit liability and protect your property, as well as discuss their hoarding cleanup services.
