August is itchy pet awareness month, and according to Dr. Mefford, one of the amazing veterinarians here at Cedar Animal Hospital, animal owners should not overlook those symptoms. “There could be several reasons for the itchiness. It could be an allergic reaction to something in their environment; it could be their food; or it could be due to parasites such as fleas and ticks,” she explained. “When the animal comes in, we can then diagnose it and find the best treatment for them.”

If you plan to stop in and pick up prescriptions or call us about an appointment, please note that for the next two weeks our general practice side will be closing at 5 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday (Aug. 4-7 and Aug. 11-14). This does NOT affect Friday and Saturday general practice hours, or Emergency hours.

This week we are honoring the 20 veterinary assistants at Cedar Animal Hospital! They are an important part of a veterinary healthcare team. Vet assistants are responsible for assisting the veterinarian, vet technicians, and other clinic staff with the daily operations of the veterinary practice. This can include both administrative and hands-on work. They clean and set up exam rooms, calm scared animals, restrain animals during exams, feed and weigh animals staying at the hospital, assist vet techs during anesthesia, assist the veterinarian and vet tech in the surgical suites, sterilize equipment, follow up with clients, update patient records, and so much more! We can't tell them enough how much we appreciate them. Please thank a veterinary assistant today!

Someone must be missing this handsome fellow. This male German Shepherd was found near 13 Mile and Algoma on Thursday, 7/24, when he jumped into a van that was stopped. (The driver opened a door and he jumped in.) The finder brought him here to be scanned for a microchip. None was found. If he is yours, please call (616) 437-6082.
