Inspired by the heartfelt ceremonies she saw online, Atrium Health Floyd nurse Katie wanted to bring that same sense of respect to her community. So, she started the Northwest Georgia Nurse Honor Guard, a group dedicated to celebrating nurses for their years of service.
Today, 25 Floyd nurses have joined the effort, with Katie serving as president. Together, they host ceremonies that honor nurses with timeless traditions: crisp white uniforms, caps, white gloves and a navy cape lined in red satin. Each ceremony includes symbolic touches such as a candle lamp, a white rose and the gentle sound of a triangle chime.
“This is our way of giving back to those who taught us and honoring the care nurses have given to families and communities,” Katie said.
“It’s a beautiful way to recognize their service and let them retire their duties with dignity,” added Guard member Amy.
