New DISRxUPT Episode: Transforming Women's Health 🎙️

In our latest episode, hosts Justin Cole, PharmD, BCPS, FPPA and Shannon Yarosz, PharmD, MS, MCR sit down with Dr. Tiffany Ruder, a pharmacist, hormone specialist, and founder of Better Health and Hormone Balance, to explore how pharmacists can fill critical gaps in women's hormonal health care.

The challenge: 📊 Often, pharmacy education barely touches the topic of hormone. Women experiencing perimenopause and menopause often see 4-5 different specialists before finding answers, with their symptoms frequently dismissed or fragmented across disconnected care.

The opportunity: 💡 Pharmacists possess unique biochemistry knowledge that positions them perfectly to educate, advocate, and provide holistic hormone counseling. Dr. Ruder's journey from CVS pharmacy manager to founding her own practice demonstrates how stepping beyond the counter can create transformative impact for an underserved population.

Key takeaways:
✦ Hormones affect the entire body, not just reproduction
✦ Women need integrated, whole-person care models
✦ Education leads to empowerment for both patients and providers
✦ Pharmacists can serve as educators in clinics, boardrooms, and communities

"These women deserve so much more than five or ten minutes of our time." - Dr. Tiffany Ruder

"Hello, my name is Chukwunonso Chukwuemeka, and I am a PharmD student in my second year of graduate studies at Cedarville University School of Pharmacy. I am from Nigeria, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacology. Due to my fascination with medications, I decided to further my education by acquiring a Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Formulations in 2024 at the University of Sunderland, UK.

Having achieved this level of education, I was still not satisfied; I felt I could do more, which is what led me to Pharmacy School. The story behind my passion is this: growing up, I would often go on road trips with my family to visit my grandparents. Although these were enjoyable times, I started to realize a few things. During these trips, we would pass through smaller towns, and I’d often see people by the roadside with various illnesses. I would always ask my mum why they did not get treatment, but I soon realized healthcare was more of a luxury in some of these places, a luxury they could not afford. This made me sad, thinking of how I could have easily been one of them, in a different lifetime. This led me to pursue a career in Pharmacy, to provide good healthcare to people worldwide.

With this in mind, I chose Cedarville University. Being here, I am surrounded by like-minded faculty and students who, day after day, broaden my understanding of more effective ways to serve underserved populations around the world. Cedarville University has also helped me strengthen my Christianity. All my life, I have always separated my religion from the other parts of my life, considering my Christianity to be only a part of my life. However, being at Cedarville University has changed my mindset. Being here has shown me that my Christianity should be at the center of everything I do, including my career. With this in mind, in everything I do, I ask myself whether God would be pleased with my actions before I carry them out.

I am honored to be chosen by God to do good in the healthcare sector, and I hope that I am able to fulfil God’s plan in my life."
