Sensory Play at Home!
Sensory play involves using everyday materials to encourage children to explore, engage, and interact with their environment. It helps build nerve connections in the brain, supporting cognitive growth and development.
At home, sensory play is a powerful way to teach both independent and social play skills. It supports imaginary and dramatic play, builds fine motor and gross motor skills, encourages tactile learning, and helps children develop life skills, self-control, and improved focus.
Sensory play can also have a calming effect and be a useful tool for managing challenging behaviors. Best of all—it’s easy to get started using items you already have at home!
You can create simple sensory bins or trays using materials like rice, beans, water, sand, pasta, or fabric scraps. These activities can be set up indoors or outdoors, and stored for repeated use.
Sensory play is not only fun—it’s essential for learning and growth!
