The Mercer County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet Sunday May 10, 2026, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Richardson Bretz Building in Celina. This month Beth Keuneke, Programming Specialist for the St. Marys Community Public Library, and Lori Martensen, a member of the Friends of the St. Marys Community Public Library, will give a presentation on local history resources offered by the library, with special emphasis on accessing the digital records of the St. Marys newspaper collection. A demonstration will be given of the archives, which includes newspapers dating back to 1873. Members are welcome to take a sneak peek at the newspaper collection prior to the meeting by visiting stmarys.historyarchives.online/home.

The Mercer County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet Sunday April 12, 2026 at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Mercer County Courthouse. Julie Peel, the Mercer County Recorder will speak about the Fraud Alert Notification Program, Century Farms, DD214 military discharge records, and using the Records to aid in Genealogical searches. Please enter the Courthouse through the north doors or the entrance closest to the post office.

This Month's speaker is Sam Schmitz with a topic of Understanding the Pros and Cons of Using the Website Find a Grave, with a Focus on German Surnames from 1825 to 1925.

Join us for our next gathering Sunday October 12, 2025, at the recently restored Glass Cabin, located at 8630 Old Town Road. The cabin, which sits adjacent to a private residence, has been lovingly restored by Mary Meyer, Sam Schmitz, and friends to reflect the charm and authenticity of a Mercer County homestead between 1900 and the 1930s.

Parking: Please park only in front of the cabin.

Carpooling: If you’d like to ride together, meet at the Richardson-Bretz Building at 119 W. Fulton Street no later than 1:45 p.m.

Step back in time with us and enjoy an afternoon surrounded by history, community, and the spirit of preservation.
