There are so many conversations happening around menopause, which is just incredible for women. However, some of the options still leave much to be desired.

While I am so happy there are options available for women to reduce the discomfort, they can come with side effects. For instance, Veozah, a medication to block the receptors that cause heat and night sweats, also comes with a black box warning ‼️ about LIVER damage.

What if there was a method that actually supported the liver, while also reducing hot flashes and other symptoms (insomnia, weight gain, irritability, night sweats) ?!?!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), menopause is not seen as a disorder, but a natural transition into the next phase of women’s lives. We don’t necessarily aim to bring back estrogen or progesterone, but balance these hormones and ease the transition out of these hormones while supporting multiple organ systems and functions within the body.

We treat patterns such as “blood-heat”, “Yin deficiency”, “fire rising”, in addition to constitutional patterns and other imbalances in the body. The patient may come in with multiple patterns, not just the ones associated with menopause. Beyond that, not every menopause patient is the same! We have the unique ability to treat the individual patterns with acupuncture and herbs that nourish and support.

Spread the word, in TCM treating patterns and diseases never comes with a black box warning.

If you’re not acknowledging your WINS, best case scenario you are neutral, but more likely the opposite is happening. You’re seeing all the things you need to do, do better, or do more.

Never allowing ourselves to revel in our successes doesn’t allow us to progress to the next step because we’re telling ourselves we’re stuck and need to do more to move forward.

It’s probably coupled with negative self-talk.

It leaves little room for a break and reflection.

When are good intervals to practice celebrating our wins?

Could be every hour. Every day. Every week. That’s up to you.

I like to use the 80/20 rule, something I learned when I was competing. Start with 80% wins and then focus on the 20% you could improve upon. In doing this, I was able to feel successful in an area and progress to the next step.

I like to reflect on a day in the clinic on my drive home. Noting things that went well and then sometimes even laughing about the little mistakes I’ve made.

Do you have some wins you need to reflect on?! Share them in the comments so we can celebrate! 🎊🎉

Dietary changes can feel punishing at first. We might think “why me?” 😫 and why can they eat “whatever they want” and get away with it.

First off, no one is really getting away with anything. They might be kicking the can down the road, but poor nutrition affects everyone eventually.

You might have more restrictions than even a “healthy” person, but everyone has a burden to bear. Changing your nutrition, sometimes to save your life, can actually be a gift:

🥵 Lower inflammation

💃More energy

🧘‍♀️Better mental health

To name a few.

If making changes feels daunting, or if you are in the midst of a flare, doing a microbiome test like can offer helpful information.

If you need help sorting out your nutrition, I can help. ♥️

I’m obsessed….what if instead of suppressing our body’s innate warning system and healing capacity, we worked on giving it what it needs to thrive.

This can feel daunting, but ultimately the process is freeing. Managing symptoms doesn’t give you energy, time, or health. It allows you to stay stuck in a paradigm that isn’t working in order to “fit in” or “be more productive”.

As someone who manages an autoimmune condition, I can attest to the power and beauty of Chinese Medicine to treat my underlying issues. This doesn’t mean that I never have to address acute symptoms or that I can eat whatever I want. But it’s a tool in my tool box that allows me to heal rather than manage symptoms.

If you struggle with autoimmunity, consider a deeper approach in Traditional Chinese Medicine ♥️

I love the art and beauty of Chinese Medicine, but it truly is a science with thousands of years of data, anecdotal and empirical evidence.

I’m so grateful my heart led me to this medicine and I can’t wait to continue to educate and help spread the word about herbs and acupuncture!

I know there is so much polarization around the election, but I think collectively it’s ok to hope for better with the leadership that has been put in place. Overall, IF promises are kept, this could be the real W for women, children and society as a whole.

If you feel skeptical about whether change will happen, I’m with you. If you feel skeptical about RFK’s positions, I encourage you to dive into his research and body of work, including the .

I also think we should be asking ourselves why these positions cause division and anger, rather than curiosity.

Lastly, our health and our children’s health is 100% in our control if we are willing to take on the difficult task of going against the system.

If you can’t sleep, then oh absolutely MUST address the foundational components of sleep. But there could be a lot more going on than what protocols and sleep hygiene suggests.

Myth: Taking Magnesium and L-Theanine will solve my sleep issues.

Reality: Most women and some men will not benefit from JUST taking magnesium or L-theanine, until they address their blood and fluids, and possibly liver, lung and spleen imbalances.

Myth: Only women get night sweats and heat at night.

Reality: In TCM, night sweats can come from heat in the Lungs. I see this pathology a lot in w**d smokers and even young men.

Myth: Taking trazedone, Benadryl, or THC will solve my sleep issues.

Reality: These can be great short-term resolutions because you NEED that sleep. However, these medications are not resolving the underlying imbalances.

A final note; alcohol is most likely negatively impacting your sleep and can even exacerbate things like heat and night sweats. If you rely on alcohol for nightly stress relief, consider an alternative and come try acupuncture and herbs!

I love the way Traditional Chinese Medicine honors women. We’ve become so disconnected from our natural cycles, pushing and grinding against the flow of our hormones and energy.

Generally, the number one piece of advice to women, is to rest or do less. We need to stop feeling guilty for taking care of ourselves.

Nourishing after blood and fluid loss is also central to our health. Many women I see tend to be blood and yin deficient. We focus on this as a way to get back in balance.

Of course, diet and sleep are critical. If your sleep is disrupted and has been for a long time, we generally calm the nervous system and also nourish fluids. Until these two things happen, you probably won’t be able to sleep, no matter how many protocols you try or instagram posts you read!

If you’re curious how to get back in balance, consider an exploratory call to see how Chinese medicine can help.
