The impacts they experience are caused by a ripple effect of funding and difficulty attracting employees, which affects their ability to provide specialty care. CCH celebrated an important milestone last month: treatment of its 100th dialysis patient!

Porche Martin, RN, our full-time Dialysis Nurse, joined CCH in February after the hospital partnered with TeleNeph to offer inpatient dialysis services and comprehensive nephrology support for our inpatients. The first patient was treated on Feb. 10 and the 100th treatment was provided in June. Congratulations!

TeleNeph provides inpatient dialysis and 24/7 nephrology coverage to the rural healthcare market. TeleNeph LLC nephrologists work directly with CCH nursing staff and providers in managing patients with nephrology needs. The disparity in prevalence of chronic kidney disease in rural areas is often due to a higher incidence of risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, according to a study published by the National Institutes of Health. The same study noted the prevalence of diabetes was 21.7% in rural areas versus 11.0% in urban areas, and hypertension was present in 59.0% of the rural population compared to 39.9% of the urban population.
