One of the most frustrating things about long covid is how difficult it is to even define. There’s no single set of symptoms, and the virus can attack multiple organ systems.
Even recovery can look different from person to person. Some of us make complete recoveries, while others are on a never-ending cycle of symptoms disappearing and returning. And many patients we see at our center have been suffering continuously — without even brief periods of relief.
The complexity of long covid means there’s no single treatment or protocol to treat it, and it’s unlikely there will ever be one.
This also means it’s vital to treat every patient with long covid on an individual basis. There simply is no “one size fits all” when it comes to this incredibly challenging epidemic.
Even patients with the same symptoms will react to the same treatments differently, and often the best results come from attacking the virus from multiple angles — such as boosting your immune system while also reducing your inflammation.
At Ballen Medical & Wellness, we earned a lot of our knowledge about fighting long covid first hand — by having it ourselves as well as within our own families.
We didn’t intend to become experts in long covid, but as we sought help from some of the leading traditional doctors, specialists, naturopathic doctors, and functional medicine providers in Denver, we began to see how our integrative approach and methodology is already at the center of the most effective long covid protocols — and integrative medicine like the kind we provide is distinctly well-positioned for getting the best results when it comes to long covid.
Sadly, it doesn’t seem like the end is in sight for battling long covid. It continues to be an on-going challenge for some of our practitioners and our families, as well as throughout our community.
There is reason to be hopeful though. We are seeing results, and revised protocols and new evidence-based research findings are being released all the time. And although expectations need to be managed, many patients can experience meaningful relief from some of their symptoms.
If you’re experiencing long covid and have been frustrated by the lack of answers, please consider visiting us for evaluation. We use the most concrete and current evidence-based research in order to put together a care plan that has the best chance of working for you.
