Communication begins long before babies can speak, as infants use various nonverbal and early verbal methods to express their needs, emotions, and interests. Understanding these forms of communication is essential for fostering a strong bond and promoting language development. Want to know more? I got you 😉

Model, model, model! Modeling language use is the way we learn to communicate! It’s so meaningful and impactful; even more than direct instruction. Think about it, kids grow and pick up what they hear and see around them. Therapy should reflect and incorporate this big time. Model language in any and all ways that the student could use (now or one day) to communicate. ♥️ They will learn and pick it up! Remember, the goal here is affective communication. When working with kids who have delays or disordered speech and language, don’t limit yourself or the child to one way. Expose them to it all and see what they pick up, everyone will be different ✨

Speech and language development can be closely linked to music in several ways:1. Rhythm and Timing: Music often has a clear rhythm and timing, which can help children develop their own sense of rhythm and timing, which is crucial for speech and language development.2. Auditory Discrimination: Listening to music can improve a child’s ability to discriminate between different sounds and pitches, which is essential for understanding and producing speech sounds.3. Vocabulary and Lyrics: Songs with lyrics expose children to new words and phrases, helping expand their vocabulary. Singing along with songs can also improve pronunciation and articulation.4. Melodic Patterns: Melodies in music contain patterns, and recognizing and reproducing these patterns can enhance a child’s ability to recognize and produce speech patterns and intonation.5. Memory and Recall: Learning and memorizing songs can boost memory and recall skills, which are important for language development and learning.6. Expressive Language: Singing allows children to express themselves in a creative way, fostering their ability to use language to convey emotions and ideas.7. Social Interaction: Singing and making music with others can improve social skills, as it involves cooperation, turn-taking, and communication.Overall, music can play a significant role in supporting speech and language development in children. It engages multiple cognitive and sensory processes that are fundamental to language acquisition and communication skills.AND ITS FUN!! 🤩 🤩🤩🤩Disclaimer: By no means am I good at playing ukulele 😂 but by learning a few key chords I’ve been able to learn the classic kids tunes 😉

Our Story

Hi all! Here's a bit about myself and this page! I’m a school-based speech pathologist with clinical work experience in a wide range of settings, including private practice.

I enjoy sharing ideas, materials, and resources on this page as well as on my Instagram account (@soundsofsuccessSLP). Some of my own, original materials can be sound in my Teachers Pay Teachers store as well (teacherspayteachers.com). Links and info are posted from time to time! :) I am truly blessed for my opportunities and enjoy all aspects of my career. Of course my development will be ever constant and I can't wait to see where it takes me! My hope is to use this page as a collection of my materials and therapy ideas. It started as a project “for myself”, but why not use it to share and collaborate with others as well!?

Please comment and reach out! Have a great day and stop by again soon! :)
