We are saddened to announce we will close Grand Pharmacy Ralls County in Center. Beginning Tuesday March 3rd, we plan to shift all pharmacy services to the location in Hannibal. Many of our customers have come to depend on our delivery and we plan to continue that service from Hannibal.
When picking up prescriptions, every patient sees the screen pictured below. We felt that the question on the screen was clear and the patients knew that they could contact a pharmacist immediately. However, the Board of Pharmacy clarified every customer must select "yes" to speak with a pharmacist before receiving their medications. This process will begin this week.
We feel the requirements in the statute are burdensome. This change will result in dozens of additional calls (many unnecessary) for the patients and the pharmacists. To continue safely and efficiently filling prescriptions we feel we are unable remain in business in Ralls County. This class of pharmacy (class R) is the only class in the state that is required to complete a transaction in this way. We were hopeful recent conversations with are State Legislators would lead to a path that would allow us an extension to continue business as we have been. It has become clear that the board feels that immediate adherence to the statute as written is our only option.
Our top priority has always been providing safe, timely access to medications for our patients. We hope the current customers of GPRC will allow us to continue providing our exceptional services from Hannibal. It has been a rewarding experience having the pharmacy in Center. The appreciation everyone shows is exceptional and gives us joy and pride from what we do.
