ce. Karina Robinson strives to make each birthing day one that you will cherish. We believe that pregnancy, labor, and postpartum are vulnerable times for parents and we want you to feel supported throughout this period, no matter the circumstances. We want you to feel educated about your birth options and be an active participant in your care. We love partners to feel included in the birth experience, as far as they're comfortable, and will help to guide them in ways to help and support you. We are very knowledgeable about and have personal and professional experience in diabetes during pregnancy, and VBACs and VBA2Cs.

This strong labored for 36 hours trying to get her baby here safely. After many hours of no progress a cesarean became the safest option.

It takes a strong and brave person to choose a path you didn't want to go down for the safety your . One of the most selfless acts of motherhood.

Congratulations to this wonderful family. Your baby is so loved! Special thanks to the amazing midwives with , the nurses who tried so very hard to help follow the family's preferences, and the fantastic OB team who helped them to have a family centered cesarean.

We had the honor of helping to shower a new with love and support from her wonderful friends and family from all over the US (thanks to Zoom!) for her upcoming birth. We loved being able to help honor her as she welcomes her long-awaited baby.

In 1986, physicians Marshall Klaus and John Kennell teamed up with Steven Robertson and Roberto Sosa to publish the "original study".

Their findings revealed that the average accompanied by a female companion was cut in half.

(An average of 19.3 hours without companionship vs. an average of 8.7 hours with the presence of the female companion)

The publication of this article helped pave the way for more research into the benefits of doulas.

We honor the Black Midwives and Doulas who came before us and those who rise to meet the challenges of today.

Some of the first modern and in the United States of America were enslaved African Americans. After the Emancipation, these individuals and their predecessors went on to learn skills from white and predominantly male medical staff and became known as "Granny Midwives".

Doulas and midwives were (and still are) a necessity in many rural areas that do not have access to hospitals and care.

But the modern word "doula" was first coined by American medical anthropologist, Dana Louise Raphael in 1969. "Doula" was derived from the Greek word δούλα for “servant-woman”, "woman who serves", and, in some translations, "woman slave".

The term "doula" has been adopted by people of all identities such as , , or people and now extends to services beyond health-related .

Doulas emerge and evolve to fulfill a much needed support role in whatever communities they serve.
