So understanding that children are not adults has always been a particular passion of mine. I find that we expect more of childrens behavior then we do of adults. “You need to learn responsibility” is a common phrase in education and so many kids just need a little more grace, less distractive environments, more assistance, help with focus or follow through. Example: a kid with ADHD that cant get his homework from his locker to the classroom does not need to be punished but rather allowed time to retrieve it without the chaos of the hallway during class transition. Know your students. Do they have a history of trauma, poverty. Are they nerodivergant , autistic, cognitively or emotionally immature. Allow for different ways of organizing, thinking, learning. I could go on forever but i will stop here. Approach students/children with grace and kindness. Listen with an open mind an understanding.
