The time has come!
It's time to give you the answers to the Vacation Quiz and....
announce the winners! Thank you for participating! It's been fun!
After spending a few days in Seattle and Olympic National Park, then sailing to the inside passage of Alaska on a cruise, we were certainly in awe of God's beautiful creation and look forward to sharing more of our special memories with you over the years.
1) Many of you guessed it, the kids took a helicopter ride and landed on the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, Alaska.
2) Out of the 7 days on the cruise ship, we were in the fitness center 6 days, however, one day we went twice! It was in the front of the boat and had great views, it was quiet, and not crowded, We enjoyed lifting weights, going to the sauna, or just walking on the treadmills looking for whales. We aren't into gambling, bingo, or comedy shows, so the gym was our entertainment. :)
3) One of the activities we did in Alaska (don't worry, we didn't buy a house) was whale watching! We saw a pod of orcas and a mama and calf humpback pair.
4) On our train ride through the White Pass Summit in Skagway, we went through two tunnels. This railroad made it a lot safer for gold miners and workers to pass over the mountains.
5) For some reason, I ended up eating tomato soup every day on the cruise. It was even on the brunch menu! I guess I needed extra vitamin C.
6) My favorite dessert was the chocolate lava cake. Of course!
7) Throughout our trip, we saw lots of amazing creatures and wildlife, including, all of the following: Bald Eagles, Mama Bear and 3 cubs, Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Elk, Sea Anemone, and Star Fish.
8) The world's largest Sitka Spruce tree in the Quinault rainforest is 191 feet.
9) A whale's spout is mostly made of mucous--like a giant sneeze! Ew!
10) I learned that an orca is the largest of the dolphin family!
11) Goldminer's learned to make spruce tip tea to help prevent scurvy!
12) Hard truth: The gold miners were required to carry 1 ton of supplies to camp in Canada and search for gold. They had to make several trips back and forth.
13) Both fisherman and gold miners found fossilized mammoth tusks while at sea or digging for gold. Alaskans use it to make jewelry, art, ulu knives and more.
