With the Holidays going on this time of year, a lot of people are suffering from the Holiday Blues. It could be because of death recently in your life, you don't have any family members, or maybe your depression is just louder during the holidays. Here are some helpful tips to survive the Holiday Blues:

-Reach out to some friends, maybe they can help lift your spirits;
-Volunteer in the community if you don't have any plans;
-Go on a walk in nature for a while;
-Accept your feelings, you are not alone.

If you know someone or suspect with the Holiday Blues here are some ways you can help:

-Include them in your gatherings;
-Lend a hand around their house, offer to blow leaves or make them their favorite meal or dessert.
-Just be there for them and be a good listener.

Communication is an important aspect in any part of life, especially in relationships. Here are some tips on how to improve your communication skills:

Prepare a head of time: If you have anxiety about having a difficult conversation, prepare a head of time. Write out what you plan on saying and say it to yourself in the mirror.

Be mindful of nonverbal communications: Facial expressions, gestures and body language says a lot about how we view the topic at hand and how we feel regarding the people involved in the conversation. Avoid crossing your arms as that makes you seem closed off from the conversation and not wanting to hear what the other has to say.

Be an active listener: Active listening is trying to actively understand the other person's perspective. If you do not understand, ask questions to show that you are trying to understand their view.

Be self-aware of your tone: Tone is another thing that can show someone how you view the conversation at hand. Try to use a friendly, loving tone to show that you are not attacking the other person, but just wanting to understand their view will getting your feelings and view across.

Self care is an important part in anyone's mental health journey. It can also be beneficial in physical health as well. What are some ways you can participate in self care? Lets look at them:

Exercise: Even just 30 minutes of exercise can boost your mood.

Eating regularly: A balanced diet can improve your focus and increase your energy levels throughout the day!

Try a relaxing activity: This could be anything that calms you. It can include fishing, being creative, reading, listening to music, sewing, or playing mindless games. You can also try to include breathing exercises, meditation or muscle relaxation methods.

Gratitude: Remind yourself of all the good things that has happened to you. This could be something as simple as eating your favorite breakfast or waking up this morning.

Stay connected: Try reaching out to a loved one and just have some conversations with them. Loved ones can boost our mood as well.
