We hear through a complex process that involves the ears, the brain, and the nervous system. Sound waves travel through the air and enter the outer ear, which funnels them towards the middle ear. In the middle ear, the sound waves cause the eardrum to vibrate, which in turn causes three tiny bones called the ossicles (the malleus, incus, and stapes) to vibrate.

These vibrations are then transmitted to the inner ear, where they stimulate thousands of tiny hair cells in the cochlea. The cochlea converts the vibrations into electrical signals, which are sent along the auditory nerve to the brain.

In the brain, the signals are processed and interpreted as sound. Different parts of the brain are responsible for different aspects of hearing, such as detecting pitch, loudness, and location. Through this process, we are able to hear and understand a wide range of sounds, from soft whispers to loud music, and even distinguish between different voices and sounds in a crowded environment.

So, basically, they suck! But, marginal benefit might still be worth it for some. One "hearing aid" was worse than the rest 🙃
