FATHER’S DAY - A SOMBER BEGINNING
In 1907, the worst mining explosion in US history claimed the lives of an estimated 365 men in Fairmont, West Virginia. The disaster left 1,000 children without a father. In 1908, a church in Fairmont dedicated a Sunday service to honor the victims, marking the first unofficial observance of Fathers’ Day.

Father’s Day is June 15th.
