"A Family Serving Families" has been our slogan for over 80 years, and it represents an approach that we're proud of. From day to day, we embrace the challenges of operating as an independent funeral home, maintaining a family-oriented approach to serving our community in a day when corporate buy-outs, silent partners, and outside investors are attempting to infiltrate this unique and dynamic industry. Our diverse staff not only includes five licensed funeral directors, but also a vast number of others, people who are your neighbors and friends. ........Because we know, without question, that a friendly, familiar face is an invaluable comfort to those in difficult times. While offering traditional and non-traditional services, advance planning, and on-site cremation services, we strive to provide a delicate balance of compassion and professionalism while minimizing the difficulty of a loss. We measure our performance by the sincerity in the thank you's we receive, not the bottom line in a quarterly stock report, which may be the reason we've grown to become Chambersburg's preferred funeral home.

Linda L. Schoenleber

Linda L. Schoenleber, age 82, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on January 7, 2026, in her home in Chambersburg, after a lengthy, courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Born on August 7, 1943, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Tom M. West and Pauline Eyer West. A graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School, Linda worked for many years in the office of Agway Energy Products in Chambersburg. After retiring from Agway, she worked for 15 years in the dental office of Dr. Michael Cerveris in Chambersburg. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.

Linda was a fantastic cheerleader in high school and was quite a good softball player who could hit the softball a “Country Mile”. Although she did not play in high school, she played in many women’s leagues and players were known to jump out of the path of her hits because of how hard she hit the ball. Linda loved working in the yard and loved mowing the grass with perfect straight lines. She wanted the lines “straight and perfect,” not allowing anyone else to perform the task. She insisted on mowing “her” full green grass in her bare feet and did it for years against her family’s wishes. When in a larger gathering of people, Linda often preferred to remain a bit quiet, but her strength and wisdom were always well known. She would often speak in those gatherings, out of nowhere, offering the “Lords view” on the subject at hand. She was just like her mother, in that aspect.

Linda, along with Rich, owned and operated Richlin Spring House and Antiques on Falling Spring Road in the early 90’s. The concept was born from Linda and Rich purchasing an old, small farm property on Falling Spring Road. (Ironically, beside Geisel Funeral Home) Linda, along with Rich, would purchase antique furniture and treasures in deplorable condition, in-and-around, Chambersburg. They often traveled quite far on weekend excursions to find these treasures, always together. They would do all of the restoration to these pieces, with both sets of hands, and bring these pieces back to life to supply Richlin Spring House. They both had a keen eye for antiques. They did all of this after restoring the entire farm property consisting of a beautiful stone home, a small, dilapidated barn, and another building on the property which became Richlin Spring House.

Surviving is her husband of over 63 years, Richard L. “Rich” Schoenleber, whom she married on February 17, 1963; daughter, Laurie L. Truman of Chambersburg; Richard P. “Richie” Schoenleber of Orrtanna, PA; Sister Lorna Johnson of Ocala, FL; Brother Tom West of Satellite Beach, FL; grandsons Brandon Truman (wife Lorraine) of Dillsburg, PA; Joshua Truman (wife Kathryn) of Clarksville, TN; Austin Schoenleber (girlfriend Erin) of Wilmington, NC; granddaughter Payton Schoenleber (boyfriend Jacob) of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren Sawyer, Brady, Whalen, Levi, and Finny Truman; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home at 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with an hour of visitation prior, beginning at 9:00 am. Pastor Ruth Smith of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Linda’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at the Chambersburg Hospital, Quincy Village Rehab Center, the In-Home Health Care, and finally, the Grane Hospice team for their compassionate care. Also, an extra special feeling of heartfelt love and gratitude to Linda’s in-home personal caregivers.

Having the privilege of writing my mother’s obituary, I realize in the celebration of my mother’s life, although painful in her passing, has bestowed a feeling of peace, knowing, in the end and through it all, my mother, in her fight, was stronger than us all.

Ray E. Caufman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ray Eugene Caufman, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on Saturday, January 3, 2026 surrounded by his beloved daughters.

Born April 6, 1959, in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of Bertha (Wiles) Caufman of Chambersburg, PA and the late Wilbur Caufman.

Ray was a 1977 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School and a devoted farmer. He was passionate about his life as a farmer. Ray worked at multiple farms throughout the course of his life but always made Brechland Farms his home. His unwavering commitment to his work was a testament to his strong work ethic and love for the land.

As an avid hunter and fisherman, Ray found joy in the great outdoors, often sharing these cherished moments with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting groundhogs with his grandson, selling cheese for the local Franklin County Holstein Club, and early morning coffee hangouts with his buddies.

Ray was the absolute best father in the world to his daughters, Amber (Kei Greene) and Sommer (Djordje Cullum). He instilled in them the values of hard work, kindness, and strength. His love extended to his five grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He cherished every moment spent with them whether it be working the farm with his youngest grandson, Koi or teaching Quentin how to drive. He shared his love for animals with his granddaughter Scarlett and took the time to teach the youngest, Vaeda Mae, how to ride her bicycle. Cloie and “Dah Pap” could always be found snacking on onion rings when no one was looking.

In addition to his mother, two daughters, and five grandchildren, he is survived by three siblings, Jean Hess (Dean) of Greencastle, PA, Leroy Caufman (Melinda) of Waynesboro, PA and Anita Schellhase (Craig) of Chambersburg, PA; a number of nieces and nephews; and Amber and Sommer’s mother, Teresa.

Ray found comfort and happiness in his shared quiet moments with his beloved and loyal dog, Zoey who never left his side.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January, 8th at New Guilford Brethren and Christ Church 1575 Mont Alto Rd., Chambersburg, PA where Pastor Lawton Jacobs will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday afternoon in the church.

Our Story

"A Family Serving Families" has been our slogan for over 80 years, and it represents an approach that we're proud of. Funeral service has been the traditional family occupation in our family since 1919, when my Grandfather Vernon opened our first funeral home in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania. In 1936, my Uncle Fred opened another firm in Dale Borough, just outside of Johnstown. Soon to follow would be my Uncle Louis and my father, Jack Sr., both owning and operating firms in Bedford County. Our third generation began with my brother, Jack Jr., who now owns and oversees the operation of three homes in Bedford County.
