๐Ÿ’ญโœจ Emotions are physical experiences not just thoughts in our mind.

Research suggests that when we allow ourselves to fully feel an emotion without resisting it, the physiological wave of that emotion lasts about 90 seconds. โณ

After that initial wave, what often keeps the emotion going is not the feeling itself, but the thoughts, stories and meaning we attach to it.

๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’“ Emotions are your bodyโ€™s way of giving you information:
โ€ข Anxiety may signal perceived threat or overwhelm
โ€ข Sadness may signal loss or disconnection
โ€ข Anger may signal a boundary has been crossed
โ€ข Joy may signal safety or connection

When we slow down and notice emotions in the body, we create space between feeling and reacting. ๐ŸŒฟ

Sometimes calm begins with noticing small parts of the body.

Take a moment and notice your hands.

Feel the weight of them in your lap or at your sides.
Maybe notice warmth, coolness, or gentle pressure.

Your hands are full of nerve endings that send information to the brain. Bringing awareness to them can help the nervous system slow down.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month ๐Ÿ’™

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the national campaign, with the theme โ€œ25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward." For 25 years, communities, advocates, and survivors have come together to raise awareness, support survivors, and work toward preventing sexual violence.

This milestone honors the progress that has been made while reminding us that there is still important work ahead. By continuing to listen to survivors, educate our communities, and promote prevention, we can help create safer and more supportive environments for everyone.

At Whole & Holy Integrative Wellness, we believe awareness, compassion, and community support are essential parts of healing and prevention.
