“AI is transforming healthcare by enhancing diagnostics, personalizing treatments, streamlining administrative tasks, and improving patient care. AI-powered tools are assisting in areas like disease diagnosis, drug discovery, and robotic surgery, leading to more efficient and effective healthcare delivery.”

In case you couldn’t tell, AI wrote the above paragraph, and it did a great job (Source: AI Overview). But, as with any new technology, AI in healthcare might have its downside, especially when it comes to privacy, risk, ethical concerns, patient safety and quality, automation bias, job disruption, etc.

CIMRO will remain alongside our clients to support their needs as AI challenges the status quo in healthcare.

Project and Compliance Manager Cindy Scopel, RN, retired on December 31 - 11 years after joining the team as a review coordinator.
After a stint as review coordinator, she was named assistant project manager in July 2014. Before the year was out, she added corporate compliance manager to her credentials. In October 2015, she was named project manager for review programs. And in March 2017, she absorbed more duties with operations and business development.
Cindy has brought with her every day a sense of collegiality and humor that gives a lift to the workplace.
The same welcoming personality, coupled with years of expertise and experience, served her well with CIMRO’s reviewers and clients present and future. More often than not, any business call began with Cindy making connections to the people on the other end of the line. At the very least, she’d know that person’s hometown, something about their family, or what the weather was doing there.
Fortunately, Cindy has agreed to stay with CIMRO to work on an “as-needed” basis.
We’re not sure what she’ll consider “needed,” though. She already has a trip to Florida scheduled for mid-January.

This year’s theme is the Power of Q, Power of You.

CIMRO is committed to our mission to support improvements in the delivery of quality health care. We are honored to have had the opportunity to partner with clients for more than 50 years, supporting safe, high-quality care delivery and continued improvements through our evidence-based independent external peer reviews. We hope this week provides an opportunity to reflect on the hard work and the positive impact being made in the lives of so many through the pursuit of quality health care.

In Old England, September was called “Haervest-monath,” meaning “Harvest Month.”

Some of best crops to harvest in September are:

Pumpkins. Illinois, where CIMRO has its headquarters, is the top pumpkin-producing state in the country. Pumpkins boost the immune system, protect eyesight, lower the risk of certain cancers, and promote heart and skin health.

Apples. According to Cleveland Clinic, an apple (or more) a day can help stabilize blood sugar, lower cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, and ease inflammation.

Tomatoes. The National Institutes of Health has published extensive lists of the benefits of eating this antioxidant-packed fruit, aka Solanum lycopersicum. Tomatoes contain anticancer properties, and contribute to cardiovascular and skin health. They help fight neurodegenerative diseases, and reduce the risk of inflammatory bowel diseases. Tomatoes also have health benefits in relation to their effects on diabetes, immune response, exercise recovery, and fertility.

Raspberries. These little berries have big health benefits, including helping to fight heart and circulatory disease.

Onions. They may make you cry when their methionine and cystine are released during cutting, but their antioxidants and other compounds bring joy to your heart by fighting inflammation and lowering cholesterol levels. Onions also make it easier for the body to produce insulin.

Stephen Nedoroscik has been dubbed “Clark Kent” by some for the way he removed his glasses and centered himself before pommel-horse routines that earned him two medals in this summer’s Olympics.

And while his extraordinary prowess on the horse has earned him international recognition, the attention he has brought to eye health has made him a hero to another audience.
Nedoroscik has strabismus and coloboma – meaning his eyes are misaligned, and some tissue is missing from his eyes. He has related to news outlets stories of young fans with these conditions who have found a role model in him. And the timing couldn’t be better.

August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, and the National Eye Institute is out to make children into eye-health champions. Check out their Web site at https://www.nei.nih.gov/learn-about-eye-health/nei-for-kids

It offers features such as optical illusions, “cool eye tricks,” videos on animal eyes and what your eyes do when you sleep, as well as tips on first aid, sports and your eyes, and healthy vision.
