Okay, up for trying something new in 2026. Some personal writings, a psychological construct founded in my existential approach....and a personal philosophy.

"The Gift of Discipline"

"I keep hearing you use that word,
and I do not think it means what you think it means"
~Inigo Montoya: The Princess Bride~

When mentioning the word "Discipline" many I have noticed will cringe, wrinkle their face, or take on a sour demeanor. This is because often we confuse "discipline" with "punishment", which is an extreme error. Discipline is the WILLINGNESS to move forward with an activity, behavior, or cognition which requires a strict set of rules, rites, or rituals to be followed or obeyed. Not the enforcement of rules based on punishment. Although the two are often circle in the same thought (thus are easily confused), each are separate from the other as punishment is often enforced by an outside agent (i.e. authority, official, agency, etc.), where as discipline is an internal process by which the individual willingly "surrenders" to those rule, rites, or rituals previously mentioned, which cultivate new pathways and opportunities. As such, and in keeping with the focus of existentialism, although the environment and/or those in it may employ punishment (as only one possible) means by which to encourage or enforce discipline, true discipline occurs when the individual allows themself to surrender to what needs to, and must be done in order for growth to occur.

There are twelve areas of discipline, these are:

The Discipline of Influence
The Discipline of Governance
The Discipline of Safety

The Discipline of Service
The Discipline of Sacrifice
The Discipline of Purpose

The Discipline of Affirmation
The Discipline of Validation
The Discipline of Acceptance

The Discipline of Transformation
The Discipline of Meaning
The Discipline of Sharing
