As we wrap up Physical Therapy month, we are chatting with our newest PT, Diana Rivera. While she has been a PTA & COTA with Desert Hand & Physical Therapy, Diana is back at our Avondale office as a PT. Check out what she has to say⬇️
❓️Can you tell us about one of your most memorable patient success stories? "So many great stories! One the sticks out the most is a patient who was burned over 50% of his body (from the waist up) in an electrical explosion. He has been such a memorable patient is because we treated him for approximately 9 years. He went through so many surgeries and despite his circumstance, his attitude was also positive. We never saw him sad or depressed. In pain, yes of course, but never sad. He is such a wonderful and inspiring person and had such a wonderful family that supported him all the way through. He was always grateful to live another day. I learned so much from him. I have no reason to complain about anything."
❓️How do you motivate a patient who is having a tough time or has lost hope? "I feel like the best way to motivate a patient is to determine what he/she likes to do and make that your goal. If possible, incorporate things the patient likes to do when determining best interventions. At times, I even like to get family involved as motivation, if appropriate."
