We have had the privilege of hosting two Level 2 Fieldwork OT students for the past few months. On Wednesday they presented their projects to some of our therapists. They are both amazing clinicians and we are excited to see the difference they make as they continue in their therapy careers!

A funding bill to fix the $122 million budget shortfall in the Division of Developmental Disabilities advanced despite a bipartisan push for changes, frustrating lawmakers and caregivers alike.

Tomorrow, the Arizona State Legislature will talk about funding for Arizona's Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).

Tuesday, April 15th - 10:00 AM

Two important "mirror" bills will be heard:
HB2945 - developmental disabilities; appropriations; waivers (Rep. Livingston)
SB1734 - developmental disabilities; appropriations; waivers (Sen. Kavanaugh)

Here are the three main things these bills would do:
1. Puts a 20-hour cap per child on the Parents as Paid Caregiver Program (PPCG), limiting how much parents can be paid to care for their minor children with disabilities,
2. Gives the legislature more control over Medicaid, preventing AHCCCS from making decisions without legislative approval.
3. Redirects funds from other programs (that build affordable housing and lower prescription drug costs) to cover the shortfall.

This is why it matters:
There is a statewide shortage of direct care workers, especially in rural areas.
When children with disabilities cannot find the providers to help them, the Parents as Paid Caregiver Program (PPCG) allows families to provide that much-needed direct support.
If a funding solution for the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) is not passed soon, DDD will not have the money to pay for critical services.

Your voice is needed:
This is the time to make your voice heard! If you receive DDD services or rely on a caregiver, the decisions made tomorrow may affect your future. Your lawmakers need to hear from self-advocates like you!

How to Get Involved:
If you would like to voice your opinion on any of these bills, this is your opportunity to do so!
Here's a great video to learn how to use the Request to Speak System (RTS) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RvUV6w9_Tg

After parking, proceed to the Arizona House or Senate. Arrive early to secure a spot!
