We joyfully celebrated the divine appearance day of Srila Jiva Goswami, offering our gratitude at his lotus feet.
Srila Jiva Goswami (c. 1511–1608) was one of the celebrated Six Goswamis of Vrndavana, revered for his saintly character and prodigious scholarship.
1. From childhood, he worshiped Krishna dolls with tears of love, even sleeping with Them in his arms.
2. Lord Nityananda personally guided young Jiva on Navadvipa parikrama and blessed his future service.
3. In Vrindavan, he became the only initiated disciple of Sri Rupa Goswami.
4. He composed over 500,000 Sanskrit verses, each written flawlessly on palm leaves.
5. His Sat-sandarbhas established Krishna as Svayam Bhagavan and bhakti as life’s ultimate goal.
6. He founded the Radha-Damodara temple, where his beloved Deities are still worshiped.
7. He trained great acharyas like Narottama, Srinivasa, and Shyamananda to spread Mahaprabhu’s mission.
8. Though the greatest scholar, he personally served pilgrims with food, shelter, and parikrama.
9. His humility was so deep that he once lived in a crocodile hole by the Yamuna, repenting to please his guru.
10. Identified as Vilasa Manjari in Vraja-lila, he eternally serves Srimati Radharani.
His life story and contributions are not mere history but a source of inspiration and guidance. For Gaudiya devotees, Jiva Goswami stands as a shining example of one who used every ounce of his intelligence, energy, and heart in the loving service of the Divine Couple and in compassionate outreach to all souls – truly earning him the titles Bhakti-siddhanta-acharya (master of devotional philosophy) and parama-mahapathi (supreme scholar) in the annals of Vaishnava history.
