AZANA Legislative Update : Momentum is Building

Because of the coordinated advocacy efforts of the Arizona Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and the American Medical Association and the unified engagement of CRNAs across Arizona, HB2211 has been removed from Monday’s schedule.

Your voices are being heard. Advocacy works.

Next: HB2447 is scheduled for Third Read on Monday, February 23, 2026. This is the final vote before moving to the Senate. Outreach to House members between now and tomorrow is critical as they prepare to cast their votes. Please check your emails for instructions.

We are at a pivotal moment. Strong, professional engagement now helps carry this bill across the finish line and positions us for the next phase in the Senate.

In honor of Black History Month, Matt Miller is being spotlighted as a valuable member of our CRNA community!

Who are you?
I am Garred “Matt” Miller, a devoted husband and father of two amazing daughters. I am from Jackson, TN and relocated to Arizona to attend the DNAP program at Midwestern University. I am a recent 2025 graduate and currently practicing independently with Summit Anesthesia. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, working out, podcasts, and challenging myself.

What makes you uniquely you?

What makes me uniquely me is the path that didn’t always follow a straight line. As a non-traditional nurse anesthesiologist, I’ve learned to embrace the journey as much as the destination. There were many times I didn’t know how things would turn out, but I found the courage to take the next step and “do it anyway.” Over time, I’ve come to find peace in the process and grace in each season of growth. That same perspective shapes how I love my spouse, guide my children, and stay present for the people who matter most to me.

How does your authentic self help shape the provider that you are?

At my core, I simply love people. There’s something deeply fulfilling about watching others step into what they’ve set out to do. In my work, I get to witness that every day. Patients often arrive in pre-op anxious and unsure, but they leave with relief and a sense of accomplishment. They faced their fear and made it through. Knowing I played a small part in that journey is enough for me.

February is American Heart Month, and as anesthesia providers, your heart health is never just a question on a form...it’s the foundation of safe care.
Because every heartbeat matters...especially when you place your trust in us.

That’s why we ask about your heart history. Anesthesia directly affects your cardiovascular system, influencing heart rate, blood pressure, rhythm, and oxygen delivery before, during, and after every procedure. Understanding your heart helps us protect it.

This same commitment to heart-centered care extends far beyond the bedside. Arizona CRNAs not only serve patients across our state, but also reach underserved communities through outreach efforts, including programs in Sinaloa. The photos you see here represent real Arizona CRNAs and Midwestern NARs, volunteering their time, expertise, and compassion. This work is entirely unpaid, motivated by a shared belief that everyone deserves safe anesthesia care, no matter where they live.

Members, you will be receiving a critical email regarding HB 2447, which will be heard in the House Health and Human Services Committee on Monday, February 9. This legislation addresses payment parity for CRNAs providing authorized anesthesia services and directly affects CRNA practice and patient access to care in Arizona.

Our responsibility as CRNAs extends beyond the bedside. Advocacy is a professional obligation, and meaningful progress depends on unity and participation. We showed up at the Capitol in person; now we must show up through informed, respectful communication with our elected officials.

We are united in this effort, and we stand together as a profession. Members are strongly encouraged to read the email carefully and take action without delay.
