Oh hey! Took a little extra time away from my phone this past week. I honestly just needed a break from social media and my phone in general. So that’s what I did. And it was glorious and so needed! Nothing is inherently wrong with our phones or social media… but sometimes a good BREAK is good for the soul.

Made me think of how we deal with workouts sometimes… Hear me out on this, it’ll come full circle. 🤪 So often we tell ourselves (and the fitness world tells us) to buck it up and “just do it”, even when our bodies are telling us otherwise. And yes, discipline must trump motivation the majority of the time, otherwise most of us would likely lack consistency and good workout + health habits.

HOWEVER! There are days or weeks when our bodies and minds just need a break… rest… recovery. And that is okay. It’s normal. It’s justified. It makes us human. And in fact, a good rest day or week is HEALTHY! The fitness world in general underestimates how important rest days are, and it makes me cringe sometimes.

So here’s my unpopular opinion on this Monday 👉🏻 Take a rest day. Or a rest week. And OWN IT. Enjoy it. Feel zero guilt about it. Acknowledge that you are doing a good thing for your body and health.

Just over here wearing real clothes today… Who dis?! 😆 95% of the time you’ll see me in activewear because I teach group fitness and it fits my lifestyle as a mom. No complaints here, I kinda love it!

But everrrrry once in awhile it’s fun to get dressed in jeans or a skirt, you know? A couple girlfriends and I joined a Thursday morning Bible study at our church, so I had a reason to put on something other than workout clothes today. Let me just tell ya, I’m loving this graphic tee/skirt/sneakers trend!👌🏻

Feeling extra grateful for friendship, our amazing community, and an opportunity to grow in my faith on this Thursday! I’ve really been trying to intentionally look for the beauty in life these days… you just gotta, because life is plain hard and messy sometimes. Tell me something beautiful and/or something you’re thankful for on this Thursday! 👇🏻👇🏻

Two years ago today, this photo was taken of our newborn baby Smith. Three years ago this week, we found out we miscarried for the second time in a row. The timing is not coincidental to me. I really believe God orchestrated the timing of these events within almost exactly a year of one another, to always remind me of His promises.

I remember the day we found out about our miscarriage like it was yesterday. I remember what I was wearing. I remember walking into the patient room and punching the bed with tears in my eyes because I was SO angry. I remember telling my husband, “This just isn’t fair. How is this happening AGAIN?!”

Little did I know that moving forward, I had a lot to learn about loss, grief, hope, compassion, and perspective. The following two years were full of loss for my family and me, and there were some really hard days. I know people out there have it WAY worse than I have ever endured, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t hurt from it, and it also doesn’t mean I didn’t grow from it. God worked in me in ways I never would’ve imagined during that time.

Today, I’m here to encourage you if you’re in a season of loss. If you’re grieving, if you’re still enduring the heartache of a miscarriage or loss … it’s okay. Allow yourself to feel the emotions, wrestle with your feelings, talk through your thoughts, go to therapy, and most importantly, hold onto hope. The rainbow will come. And just remember — God makes beauty from ashes. Your story isn’t over yet. 💗

I recently had a “revelation”… 🤯 Ready for it?

If I want to make a change in my life, I have to be the one who is ready for it and personally committed to it. The change can’t be for anyone else or because I feel like I ‘should’ do it. It has to be for ME, and I have to mentally be all in … otherwise nothing is ever going to change.

I put “revelation” in quotes because this isn’t a NEW concept to me. It’s something I’ve known for a long time, and it’s something I’ve continually preached to my clients and class members over the years. However, I recently EXPERIENCED it for myself as I set out to make a personal change. And, it was a good reminder as I encourage and motivate others in their health and fitness journeys.

This “revelation” can also hold true to making other changes in our lives beyond our health and fitness goals. You want to be more generous? You want to eat more vegetables? You want to be more intentional in your relationships? Whatever change it may be… YOU gotta mentally want it and commit yourself to it, otherwise it’s never going to happen. No one else can do that for you, except YOU. ❤️

People who encourage and uplift others just make me smile! Don’t they for you too? ☺️ Recently I’ve had a few encounters where I was having an off day, and a friend (or even a stranger’s) kind compliment or word of encouragement completely shifted my day for the better.

These encounters not only made my day, but also inspired me to continually work to be better in this area… It doesn’t come natural to all personalities, but that doesn’t mean you can’t strive to be better at it … especially when you know you could make someone’s day from your compliment or word of encouragement. And isn’t making someone’s day the best feeling?! ✨

Women so often immediately feel threatened or jealous (aka insecure) by other women. That makes me sad! Let’s put those feelings of jealousy/insecurity/threat to rest, and focus on UPLIFTING, ENCOURAGING, and COMPLIMENTING! We are all guilty of the occasional insecure feelings, but if we consciously push those feelings out and CHOOSE to cheer on others … it’s a way more joyful, happier situation for ALL women! This is something I won’t ever stop talking about, and will always make a point of teaching my daughter.

Cheers to the girls who encourage, compliment, and cheer on others … rather than bash, gossip, and tear down. Let’s all challenge one another to encourage a friend, compliment a stranger, or say something kind to someone this weekend! 💕 Who’s with me? 🙋🏼‍♀️

“Do you track macros?”

“Do you count calories?”

“Do you still carb cycle?”

I get these questions often. And the short answer is “sometimes, but pretty rarely”. I may loosely track macros and/or carb cycle for short periods of time if I feel the need to tighten up my nutrition. But honestly, I don’t even do that much anymore. I know what works for me, and it’s pretty much just maintaining a normal, balanced diet … which is lots of protein, plenty of veggies and/or fruit, a good amount of healthy fats, portion control, and the occasional indulgences. I’ve learned for me, tracking and getting too obsessive about all the numbers can backfire and causes me to get too obsessive. This is not to say macro tracking or carb cycling doesn’t work or that I don’t support it for some people… I made entire fitness + nutrition programs based on carb cycling because I KNOW it works, but for me personally, I’ve learned over time what works best for me in this season of my life, which may be totally different for you!

I do very loosely track my protein intake to ensure I’m getting plenty of protein. Protein is the most important macro when it comes to maintaining and building muscle, increasing your metabolism, and also helps you feel more satiated and content, among many other benefits! I recommend tracking protein intake for those that may not be interested in tracking all macros, but still trying to hit fitness goals and build muscle.

I try to get the majority of my protein from whole food sources, but a daily protein shake definitely helps me increase my protein intake while keeping my calories in moderation. I mix a scoop of my favorite protein powder with unsweetened almond milk or I add a scoop to a smoothie if I want a meal out of it.

IdealFit protein is my all time favorite protein powder, and I’ve been using it for years! Chocolate Peanut Butter, French Vanilla, and Mint Chocolate Chip are my favorite flavors but you really can’t go wrong with any of them. They deliver 20g of protein with only 100 calories per serving.

So dang excited to share these brand new summer wines with you! These wines are just the right amount of sweet, and are crisp and fizzy to make the perfect poolside companion. Even better, they’re only 90 calories per serving, 2g of sugar or less, and are made from family farm and estate sourced grapes. Yessss please! 😍 I’m typically a red wine kinda girl, but I do love a chilled white wine or rosè during the summer months. All three flavors — Peach Ginger White Blend, Strawberry Hibiscus Rosè, and Papaya Jasmine White Blend are seriously tasty, but the Strawberry Hibiscus Rosè has my heart! Well, I’ll just be over here by the pool with my bubbly! Cheers to summer!

As my baby Smith approaches his 2nd birthday later this week, I have been reflecting a little more on where we are at … and where we came from. And really, just life itself.
Quite honestly, life is pretty good lately. Our kids are fun ages, we’ve had a great year of travel, my anxiety has (mostly) felt under control, family + friend relationships are in a decent place, etc. Of course we have our occasional rough days and weeks, but as a whole, I’m grateful for the good days lately. That being said, this didn’t come without a storm prior to this “good season”.

We went through a two year span of what felt like one hard thing after the next … we went through a lot of loss, which also came with a lot of anxiety for me. We experienced two back to back miscarriages before Smith, followed by my mom being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. My stepmom was also diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and we ended up losing her in late 2019. I felt loss/betrayal in a few friendships + relationships, which took time to grieve as well. All while my anxiety was a crazy rollercoaster.

I realized recently that after those couple of tough years, I’ve honestly found myself wanting to be numb to hard emotions or difficult conversations. I haven’t had the desire to go as “deep” or be as vulnerable because that brings out those hard emotions, and I feel exhausted from them. Maybe that’s semi justified? But, I know deep down that’s not how we live out our purpose. We live out our purpose by sharing our story, by connecting with others through vulnerability, and by loving on others. And I know I can do better in those areas.

So, I guess I just felt compelled to say that 1) if you’re a new follower, it’s not always sunshine + rainbows around here; 2) I’m working on the balance of being positive, but also being authentic + being okay with tough emotions; and most importantly 3) if you’ve experienced any sort of loss, you aren’t alone and I’m here for you.

As our pastor has said, “You’re either in a storm, coming out of a storm, or about to enter a storm.” Life is beautiful, but it can also be plain hard sometimes. This is why I’m so grateful we have God and one another. Love you all!

How’s summer going for all you mamas out there?! Are we surviving? 🤪😅 I’m enjoying our more flexible schedule and the extra time with my kids, but if I’m honest, I could pass on the bickering and attitudes and “I’m bored” I get every so often. 😆 ‘Tis !

The gym is my little bit of reprieve each day when I either teach a class, take a class, or do my own workout. And those endorphins definitely help my patience levels, anyone else?! 🙋🏼‍♀️ I am so happy gyms are open this summer! Not taking that for granted ever again. 😬

This outfit was the perfect summer mom life outfit today … it took me from teaching BodyPump this morning to a splash pad play date with friends. I love the fit and length of the shorts, and the color of this tank is so pretty! They’re the White Flow Shorts and PoppyCopper Charged Tank in my activewear shop.

How are you mamas enjoying summer (and staying sane) with your kiddos?! ☀️

Happy Friday! 💗 It feels so good to say that... I’m so excited for our weekend ahead! We have some plans with friends, but otherwise we are just chillin’! This past week has been fun, but go go go, and I feel like I’m running on fumes. Some time with friends, family time, + relaxing will be perfect and just what we all need!
I want to chat real quick about my favorite BCAAs... The raspberry lemonade and peach lemonade BCAAs have forever been my favorite. I find myself wanting them nonstop especially lately because they are so refreshing in the summer heat and seriously taste SO GOOD!
A few fun facts about BCAAs:

✖️BCAAs stand for branch chain amino acids. Amino acids are building blocks of protein, which as most of you know, protein helps build lean muscle, increase strength, and contributes to a toned and lean physique.

✖️They aid in muscle recovery, delay fatigue, and ease soreness.

✖️They protect lean muscle mass. I like to explain it like wrapping Saran Wrap around your muscles to protect them. When you supplement BCAAs, your body is less likely to consume its own amino (aka protein) stores during exercise.

✖️You can them before, during, or right after your workout. Any of these times are beneficial.
IdealFit is celebrating National Best Friend’s Day this week, which I absolutely love, because working out with my girlfriends and class members is one of my favorite things to do! 💕 We keep each other motivated, accountable, and laughing — it definitely keeps it more fun! A fun weekend with great friends in beautiful Sedona! We hiked our hearts out, laughed until our abs hurt, stayed up way too late, went on a bike ride, took a Pink Jeep Tour, ate good food, and had conversations without interruption! It was the perfect little weekend getaway. Now back to our babies and real life we go! http://liketk.it/3gZRj .it
