Yesterday was a very special day for us at the Meridian Integrative Medicine clinic in Scottsdale. Dr. H. , husband of my deceased ALS patient dropped by my office while traveling in Arizona. He wanted to thank me in person for the care I provided for his wife. Dr. H. truly believed what we did for his wife ( electro acupuncture and LLL) definitely extended her life by another two years. D. D. was one of my most challenging case from three years ago. She came all the way from Hawaii every few months to Phoenix for me to treat her… when flying became difficult, I was able to pursue the manufacturer ( Erchonia) to provide a free loaner- handheld LLL, to continue with home therapy. Dr. H. Kept a detail log… they applied the LLL one hour daily. Although it was labor intensive for all the caregivers, they were more than happy to help D. D. and especially watching her to participate many important family events and celebrations… which included one of her daughters’ wedding. It is almost unheard that Bubar ALS can live beyond two years… D. D. Lived little over four years after her initial diagnosis.
Dr. H. Has written to the ALS researchers and the LLL manufacture to do studies with the photo biomodulation medical device.
Sending love and prayers to D. D.’s family. I am honored to be able to help DD to leave this world with a good closure.

We reopened Meridian Integrative Medicine since June first and I am feeling very safe as all of our staff have gotten the additional cleaning protocols down to a science! One of the faculties from U. of A. College of Medicine was visiting, she was super impressed with our cleanliness and was pleasantly surprised to see all of our staff wearing KN 95 masks! I said “ Why not?”. Our staff’s safety is our patients’ safety.
While I was home .....observing shelter in place, I managed to complete and renewal my arizona medical license, Arizona acupuncture license and American Board of Medical Acupuncture resertification.... took awhile for all the courses and examinations 😵.... super happy to announce that I got those responsibilities out of my way. Now, I can relax and pick up my medical readings for the areas that I treat every day. I think from time to time I will share with you interesting topics that I treat and you might find it interesting......
Today’s topic: Interstitial cystitis (IC)
I wish I can get more IC patients to give acupuncture a try. Several IC patients have been following with me for the last ten years. Although I have not been able to cure their disease, I am happy to share that these patients are happy with limited pain medication they have to take on a daily bases.

On Monday, April 29, 2019, I had the honor of giving an one hour lecture on “ How to Integrate Eastern and Western Medicine “. My audience was students from the University of Arizona School of Medicine. I was told this lecture was “ groundbreaking”!
Actually, I have been teaching medical students for years and I am currently a preceptor/ faculty with the University of Arizona School of Medicine Capestone program.... where medical students spend time in my clinic one at the time.... but, because I can’t take more students ( slows me down during my regular clinic days), students asked me to present this topic to others who could not rotate with me. I hope I was able to open their minds that there are other medical paradigm from other parts of culture...and these tools work very well with allopathic medicine!

Every year I look forward to attend the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture annual symposium. This year, finally, the symposium is being held in Phoenix. Several of my colleagues came to my office and saw how I treat patients with medical acupuncture and incorporate Low Level Laser therapy. I networked with many medical acupuncture doctors around the country and learned from best of the best medical acupuncture doctors on their approaches with some of the very challenging diagnoses .... such as interstitial cystitis, fibromyalgia, chronic peripheral neuropathy, functional abdominal pain , ALS and more!. We discussed further on just how acupuncture work and happy to find that fMRI on CNS has been used for acupuncture research at some of the most respected teaching hospitals in the country.
I hangout with Korean American medical acupuncture doctors this year! Why? I wanted to try some of the best Korean food with them😵

At the Meridian Integrative Medicine, we take pride and feel extremely honored to be able to provide quality services for all of our patients while they are on the journey for recovery. Most of the time we forget to celebrate when milestones have made and sometimes we just forget to give “thanks” to all the people who did the heavy lifting.
Last Tuesday, we celebrated Henry ‘s one year post radiation, chemotherapy and bone marrow transplant. Since Henry had to have all of his first year “baby vaccinations” done all over again, we decided to celebrate Henry’s “ first Birthday “!!!
On behalf of Meridian Integrative Medicine, I want to thank my staff ( MIM team) for all of their hard work.... as Henry said, his rehab started moving one finger at the time. Although we joined his recovery team six months later, we thank Henry for giving us so much life lessons and especially his “radiant of happiness “! P.S. we also honored Henry ‘s wife, Kim, the awesome caregiver!!!
