Assisted Living Week.... A week long nationwide, celebration of the people living and working in assisted living facilities. This year's theme was "Ageless Adventure". Here at Ray Road, our sense of adventure took on many forms from trying new things to just letting our silly side shine! We had a great week!

July was jam-packed, but we couldn’t spend time in the tropics without swimming with the sharks!

We learned that there are over 500 species of sharks. Some are big, some are tiny, and others are somewhere in between. Did you know sharks don’t have a predetermined amount of teeth? When they lose one, another just grows in.

We hammed it up for the camera, and in spite of being eaten alive, some people remained quite calm.

We had a tropical good time at our family night luau dinner. Ham, cheese, and pineapple sliders with a Hawaiian macaroni salad, piña colada bars for dessert, and shaved ice to top it all off. Families felt like they were on the island with decor like the green leaf vines and hibiscus flowers hanging all around, everyone wearing a lei, and a Tiki Totem Pole painted by our very own receptionist, Sammy. There was coconut bowling for the kids and a fantastic crew to pull it all together. Mahalo, everyone!

Residents have been working hard to make our "Hale" (home in Hawaiian) have a tropical vibe as we prepared for our first annual Summer Luau.

We were influenced by Polynesian art and culture and designed our own tiki masks, decorative hula girl water bottles, and under-the-sea themed centerpieces.

The creativity didn't stop there! We wanted to feel like we were a part of the jungle and created Monstera plant leaves to hang around.

It's monsoon season in Arizona, so we had the humidity to go with, just missing the water!

Fun for the 4th! Residents teamed up to complete patriotic centerpieces for the activity space. Everything looked pretty when it was finished! After all the prep work for the tables, residents made bomb pop cookies and washed it down with a red & blue layered cocktail.

Cool treats for a hot day! In AZ, we have to be creative to beat the heat! We took a trip to Bahama Bucks and had some delicious shaved ice treats, including the cherry classic, Piña colada's, strawberry cheesecake delight and a "Bahama Rama Mama" (shaved ice with ice cream at the bottom). Do you have a favorite flavor of shaved ice?

When you look good, you feel good! Every Friday, we take time to pamper our peeps! Nails trimmed, filed, and painted. We even help with regeneration by massaging Vitamin E Oil into the skin. We may live in AZ, but our hands are baby soft and smooth.

Take time to smell the flowers! We are blessed to have beautiful flowers donated to our community once a week. Not only do we get to beautify our community, but we learn new things too!

We received some exotic arrangements and enjoyed flowers from South America and South Africa, including Birds of Paradise, Proteas, Bromeliads and the iconic tropical Monstera leaves. We even learned that Loofa sponges come from plants and can be used in floral arrangements.

Do or donut? There is no try! One does not simply eat donuts on National Donut Day, one has to MAKE the donuts. Residents got to flavor up their donut experience. Residents mixed up strawberry, blueberry, funfetti, and chocolate cake mix, and then they made mini donuts in our mini donut maker and baked them in our small oven. They were delicious!

Do what you love to do and be around things that make you smile. For us, it was baby goats!

We have to mind our manners. People say: Stay off the furniture! Get out of the garden beds! You can't eat that! But baby goats don't care. The more mischief, the better!

Memorial Day is a time to gather with friends and loved ones and remember those that have gone before. As our kick-off to the day, we hosted a BBQ luncheon and rocked around the clock to music from Carl Block.
