Carl Stix relied on platelets to survive a horrible crash 23 years ago today. When he asked about thanking the donor, he realized he'd already met them and knew them extremely well. Read his story:

Fortunately, Carl’s bad luck would end at the accident scene. While at the hospital, he learned his leg would likely need to be amputated. But if there was ever a moment for a "right time, right place" scenario to play out, it was then. And it did.

Bowen has faced more challenges in his young life than most. 💪❤️

Born with multiple heart defects, he's undergone two open-heart surgeries and will eventually need another one. Blood donors have been supporting him since the beginning, receiving his first transfusion at only days old.

"The obstacles Bowen has overcome and continues to overcome would not be possible without blood donors who selflessly give to put smiles on the faces of Bowen and countless others," shared Emily, Bowen's mom.

For Eric, it was his father's health issues in 1999 that inspired him to begin saving lives through blood donation. Later, he was asked to donate platelets. Understanding their importance as his mother was battling cancer, he stepped up to become a committed platelet donor.

On New Year's Eve in 2017, Deputy Jeff Pelle was shot in the line of duty.

The bullet entered through his right armpit, and his injuries included a collapsed lung, a lacerated liver, and multiple shattered and broken ribs.

When he arrived at the hospital, Deputy Pelle had lost 5 units of blood and received blood transfusions to survive.

"I would not be alive today without this donation," Deputy Pelle said. "I have two daughters who are here today because of the blood transfusion I received."
