Some children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder), or other difficulties with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) may find it difficult to self-regulate, organize and attend or focus making it challenging to participate in activities. Proprioceptive input (applying input to the muscles and joints to regulate the nervous system) or deep pressure help children, and adults, reach an optimal level of alertness. Providing a child with weighted equipment, such as a lap pad or compression vest for 20-30 minutes, allows the child to focus and complete tasks at hand such as homework or circle time at school. This input also helps a child remain calm during times of anxiety like doctor and dentist visits, loud restaurants or driving in a car for long periods of time. Weighted blankets that are custom to each individual (please consult an OT before using weighted equipment to be sure the weight is correct for the weight and size of the child) will help a child that may have sleep difficulties. Weighted and pressure equipment should always be used under the advisement of an occupational therapist or physician. The benefits of using sensory equipment such as swings, trapeze, rope ladders and scooter boards, children become stronger, increase their confidence, motor planning and coordination. I want to provide quality, custom equipment at an affordable price so families are not burdened with a huge expense that most insurance companies will not cover. All of my products are made to order in your choice of fabrics and fillable materials to meet your child's specific sensory needs.
