With holiday stress on the rise this year, MindWell Psychology is here with simple, supportive tips to help you navigate the season with care and compassion:
1️⃣ Have a plan.
Keep 3–5 grounding or mindfulness tools ready when things feel overwhelming like deep breathing, a short walk, or a quick meditation. Practice healthy boundaries, and give yourself permission to step into a quiet room or gently redirect conversations when needed. Be sure to follow up with your mental health providers (therapist, psychiatrist, etc.) if you need additional support
2️⃣ Make space for your emotions.
Grief and loneliness can feel heavier this time of year. Honor loved ones, acknowledge what you’re feeling, or create new traditions that bring comfort. If you’re feeling isolated, stay connected through volunteering or local community events.
3️⃣ Be mindful of social media.
It’s easy to compare your experience to others online. Remember: not everything reflects reality. Plan intentional breaks to avoid doom-scrolling and protect your mental well-being.
4️⃣ Prioritize rest.
The holidays make it easy to lose track of time. Aim for consistent sleep to help regulate mood, energy, and focus. Stick to a realistic sleep routine, and try to avoid caffeine or heavy, sugary foods late at night.
5️⃣ Be realistic with expectations.
Financial stress is real this year. Create a budget that feels manageable, focus on meaningful experiences over material gifts, and remind yourself that thoughtful connection often matters more than cost.
