Have you heard of the VBAC Calculator? Many women who hope to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) are typically confronted with the calculator at a prenatal appointment. The outcome is rarely encouraging, as it is a very antiquated system. A low score validates the provider's push for a repeat cesarean and makes the woman feel inferior and discouraged. For black women, the calculator is even more harmful. Two women with the same stats will have a stark difference in their calculation, all because their skin color is different.

We have been asked, "Is it safe to breastfeed after being exposed to tear gas?" Yes, usually.
We know this question is of concern for some nursing parents right now.
From LLL of Asia and Middle East, “Unless a mother is repeatedly exposed to tear gas in large quantities, for example, as a riot control police officer, frontline protestor or journalist, there is no reason to avoid nursing.”

-Evidence shows that home birth or birth center birth is a safe option for low risk birthing people who are interested in a low intervention labor and birth.

- Evidence also shows that Community Midwives & Community Birth provide the best outcomes for this group of people."

I have had the absolute honor of helping women prepare for motherhood through birth classes, and serving them as their labor and/or postpartum doula. Happy Mother's Day to you all, and thank you for allowing me to be part of this tremendously joyous milestone.
