Taking CEUs for acupuncture and chiropractic licensure can be a pleasure. Following comes from a description of an upcoming class in Asheville:

Chaos & Harmony:
Integrating the Heart & Pericardium
Chaos contains the seeds of creation and opportunity. However, too much chaos in our lives threatens our equilibrium. One of the functions of the Pericardium is to protect us from chaos and help us maintain order, sanity, identity and social relationships. If the Pericardium is over protective, we miss out on much of the beauty, wonder and possibilities of life.

The Pericardium mediates the opening of the Heart or***ce and Chinese medicine is medicine of the Heart. This class explores the relationship between the Heart and the Pericardium, and the Pericardium’s role as both “Heart Protector,” and “Heart Host.” If we can harmonize the Heart and the Pericardium, we can heal and integrate many of the psycho-social aspects of our being.

Taiwanese researchers discovered acupuncture triggering stem cell release healing damaged organs naturally. Scientists at China Medical University found that electroacupuncture at specific meridian points stimulates bone marrow to release mesenchymal stem cells into circulation, which then migrate to injured organs and promote tissue repair. This mechanism explains acupuncture's therapeutic effects through measurable biological processes rather than placebo.

Traditional Chinese medicine has used acupuncture for thousands of years, but Western medicine dismissed it as placebo due to lack of biological mechanism. Taiwanese researchers using advanced imaging and cellular tracking discovered that needle stimulation at specific points triggers measurable stem cell mobilization—providing the first clear biological explanation for acupuncture's effects.

Electroacupuncture (needles with mild electrical current) at ST36 (Zusanli point) and GV20 (Baihui point) causes a 300% increase in circulating stem cells within 24 hours. These mobilized stem cells express homing signals drawing them to damaged tissues—injured liver, heart, kidneys, or brain—where they differentiate into organ-specific cells and release healing factors. It's like acupuncture triggers the body's internal repair dispatch system.

Stroke patients receiving electroacupuncture within 48 hours of stroke showed 40% better functional recovery than those receiving standard care alone. Liver cirrhosis patients showed reduced fibrosis markers. Heart attack survivors demonstrated improved cardiac function. The mechanism is entirely biological—traced stem cells from bone marrow to damaged organs. Skeptical Western physicians are reconsidering acupuncture given this mechanistic evidence. We're discovering that ancient healing practices work through sophisticated biological mechanisms science is only now capable of detecting.

We are an ecosystem based on cooperation.

Fifteen rejections couldn't silence the woman who discovered that your body is proof cooperation, not competition, built life itself.
In 1967, a young mother and scientist named Lynn Margulis published a paper that would change everything we know about life on Earth.
But first, she had to survive rejection after rejection from journals who thought her idea was too radical—and perhaps, that she was too female to be right.
Lynn looked at cells through a microscope and saw something revolutionary: ancient partnerships so successful they became permanent.
Inside every cell in your body right now are tiny structures called mitochondria. They generate energy so you can breathe, think, move, and live. Scientists had always wondered why mitochondria had their own DNA, why they reproduced independently, why they looked so much like... bacteria.
Lynn realized: they WERE bacteria.
Billions of years ago, one simple cell engulfed another. Instead of destroying it, they formed a partnership. The internal bacterium provided energy. The host cell provided protection. Over millions of years, they became so integrated they could no longer exist apart.
Complex life didn't evolve through competition. It evolved through collaboration so profound that separate organisms literally merged.
Your cells are communities. Your body is an ecosystem. Life itself is fundamentally cooperative.
The scientific establishment—dominated by men who viewed evolution through the lens of warfare and conquest—hated this idea. They rejected her paper again and again. Competition was considered the engine of evolution. Cooperation felt like weakness.
But Lynn was armed with something stronger than bias: undeniable evidence.
She kept refining her research. She documented DNA evidence. She traced evolutionary timelines. She found symbiosis everywhere—in lichen, coral, the bacteria in our guts without which we couldn't digest food.
Finally, one journal said yes.
At first, her theory was dismissed as fringe science. But as DNA sequencing technology advanced, the evidence became impossible to ignore. The genetic material in mitochondria matched bacteria perfectly. Every prediction Lynn made was confirmed.
By the 1980s, endosymbiotic theory wasn't controversial—it was taught in every biology textbook.
The woman who faced fifteen rejections became one of the most important evolutionary biologists of the 20th century. She received the National Medal of Science. She was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. She revolutionized how we understand life.
But her legacy goes beyond mitochondria.
Lynn Margulis proved that the most fundamental truth about life is cooperation, not competition. Every breath you take is powered by ancient bacteria that chose partnership over conflict billions of years ago.
In a world that glorifies individualism and competition, Lynn gave us scientific proof of something deeper: we are, at the cellular level, communities built on collaboration.
She faced rejection because her ideas challenged the dominant narrative. She persisted because truth doesn't need permission.
And she was right.
Your mitochondria—generating energy in every cell right now—are living proof. They're ancient bacteria that formed a partnership so successful it created everything from plants to people to you.
You are not an individual. You are a community.
Lynn Margulis spent her life proving that cooperation isn't weakness—it's the foundation of existence itself.
Competition gets the headlines.
But cooperation built the world.

Measles outbreaks are active in multiple U.S. states in 2025, with especially intense outbreaks in West Texas and spillover into neighboring states, plus clusters in Utah, Wisconsin, and others.
• The major drivers are importation of the virus into susceptible populations, under-vaccination (or gaps in immunity), vaccine hesitancy, and localized clusters of low vaccination.
• The consequences range from serious illness, hospitalization, and death, to public health strain, economic costs, and the risk of losing measles elimination status in the U.S.

From the article: “The mortality rate for falls among older adults in the US has more than tripled during the past 30 years. In contrast, death rates due to falls decreased during the past 30 years in other high-income countries.”

Overprescribing of a surprisingly large number of medications is silently killing older Americans. What can you do to protect those you love?
