ā€œTO BE HOPEFUL in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.
What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.
And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.ā€
-Howard Zinn

Another way you can help is by taking this on demand training facilitated by Kelly Lynch, retired first responder and therapist, which gives some basic info on how to best support first responders in the wake of a natural disaster… We have so many people here over on the western end of the state that will need these services once things settle down. ā™„ļø

ā€œIf a person can’t get out of bed, something is making them exhausted. If a student isn’t writing papers, there’s some aspect of the assignment that they can’t do without help. If an employee misses deadlines constantly, something is making organization and deadline-meeting difficult. Even if a person is actively choosing to self-sabotage, there’s a reason for it — some fear they’re working through, some need not being met, a lack of self-esteem being expressed. People do not choose to fail or disappoint. No one wants to feel incapable, apathetic, or ineffective. If you look at a person’s action (or inaction) and see only laziness, you are missing key details. There is always an explanation. There are always barriers. Just because you can’t see them, or don’t view them as legitimate, doesn’t mean they’re not there. Look harder. Maybe you weren’t always able to look at human behavior this way. That’s okay. Now you are. Give it a try.ā€

A great role model

A great role model

Over time I stopped talking to people who didn't listen and people who always wanted to be right.

I stopped looking for people who never looked for me, thinking about people who never thought of me.

I started doing what I am comfortable with, without unnecessary things, but with passion.

I started to rely on my intuition in everything, in every area, in relation to every person.

I've started avoiding negative people and only meeting a few positive ones.

Because I learned to value myself and my needs are my priority.

Because I believe I am worth it.
